In good, gently undulating pasture, located on alow ridge bordered by Annagh Loughs to S-SW and by the Mannin River at E−SE. This is one of two conjoined raths. The other rath (MA093-042----) lies at a slightly higher elevation immediately to NNW. Slightly raised, roughly circular area (47.6m N–S; 50.5m E–W) defined by a scarp (H 0.2-0.3m), The scarp has been partly levelled but retains a slight internal lip at NE and SE. Outside the scarp it is enclosed by a fosse (Wth 2.2m; ext. D 0.4m), largely infilled at E. The fosse appears relatively narrow for most of its circuit, but it expands in width (Wth 2.7m) at NNW at the point where it intervenes between the two raths. The rath interior is relatively level, but with a few undulations conforming to the natural slope of the land, notably a gently raised undulation at ESE–SE where the bank overlies a natural rise, and a marked slope down from the centre to the SW in the SW quadrant. In pasture, located on a slight rise. Circular earthen platform (estimated diam. 30-35m) defined by an earth and stone scarp (H 1-1.3m, 0.8m at E) which has been incorporated into a later field fence on the N arc. The interior appears to be level but is engulfed in an impenetrable thicket of blackthorn and brambles and could not be examined. The perimeter is thickly ringed by hazel, ash and oak trees. There are heaps of field clearance debris at intervals around the perimeter. Post and wire fencing encircles the rath. Two conjoined raths (MA093-040----; MA093-042----) are located c. 200m to S. In good, gently undulating pasture, on low ridge bordered by Annagh Loughs to S-SW and by the Mannin River at E−SE. This is one of two conjoined raths. The other rath (MA093-040----) lies at a slightly lower elevation, immediately to SSE. Slightly raised oval area (50.5m NW–SE; 39.5m NE–SW) defined by a levelled bank (H 0.5m at E; 1.4m at W) which survives as a low, poorly defined scarp or undulation. The rath straddles a natural undulation or rise, utilising the natural fall of ground to NE. The interior has a slight slope down from centre to NW−N and to SW. It is crossed by remnants of a field bank (Wth 1.3m; H 0.2m) which extends through the NE quadrant on a NNE–SSW axis, then turns to the W through the centre and continues beyond the rath to the SW. In pasture, now converted to forestry plantation, on an area of sloping ground. This burnt mound was discovered in 2010 during archaeological testing (10E0483) in advance of a proposed development. There was no trace of the monument at ground level prior to the testing. It was revealed in the test trench as a spread (11m N−S; 9m E−W) of heat-shattered stone in a charcoal-rich soil, with two small isolated ancillary deposits, one to E and one to W of the main mound. The burnt mound was preserved in-situ and not fully excavated (Delaney 2011). No surface trace of the burnt mound was noted during an inspection of the location in 2016 in advance of forestry development (Wallace, 2016). An exclusion zone protects the monument. Located in wet, reed-grown ground. This possible togher was discovered in 2010 during archaeological testing (10E0483) in advance of a proposed development (Delaney 2011). There was no trace of the monument at ground level prior to the testing. Excavation of a test trench, exposed, close to the surface, two close-set plank-like fragments of worked wood on a roughly NE−SW alignment. They measured 1.6m by 0.67m and 0.4m by 0.67m. There was a gap of 0.2-0.38m between the two pieces of wood, and the end of each piece of wood flanking the gap appeared cleanly cut or sawn. Five wooden pegs were inserted into a split in the larger piece of wood. These two pieces of worked wood appeared late in date, but other small fragments of wood found close by showed evidence of tool marks which may date to an earlier period. The remains were interpreted as a possible togher, perhaps multi-period in date. It is preserved in situ (Delaney 2011). Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 11 January 2017
