In pasture in the grounds of Ballinamore House, an 18th-century country house (NIAH no 31308003), located on level elevated ground, close to a break of slope where ground falls towards the Geestaun River which is 90m to W. A rectangular building (14-15m NW−SE; 9-10m NE−SW) is indicated and named 'Cashlankeegh' on 1838 OS 6-inch map; on later map editions it is indicated as 'Cashlankeegh (in Ruins)’. There are no visible remains at ground level. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 2 December 2021 - MA080-036: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA080-036----. In pasture, in the former grounds of Ballinamore House, an 18th-century country house (NIAH no 31308003), located a prominent rise with excellent views. There is a hollow of wettish ground to SE. Shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. 40-45m) named ‘Lismeel’; depicted on later map editions as an irregular-shaped hachured feature. This possible rath has been levelled, and partly quarried out at S−SW. The remains consist of a kidney-shaped platform (c. 30m NNW−SSE; c. 16m NNE−SSW) with a high, broadly slumped scarp (Wth slope c. 7m; H 1.6m at NW, H 1.8-2m at NE) which merges almost seamlessly with the natural slope of the rise. A very shallow depression (W c. 4m) curves around the NW−N arc, possibly indicating a fosse. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 2 December 2021 - MA080-039: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA080-039----. In pasture, on a low rise, in gently undulation terrain that falls gradually for 240m toward the bank of the Pollagh River. A circular enclosure (diam. 30-35m) is shown on the 1838 and 1919 OS 6-inch maps, in an area of open unenclosed land. Subsequently, this area was ‘striped’ into a several long narrow fields, separated by straight field fences. The possible rath has been levelled, but the outline of a broadly oval area (diam. c. 25-30m N−S; c. 35m E−W) can still be traced. It is crossed to W of centre by a NNW/SSE property fence. To W of the fence, the W arc of the enclosure is clearly visible as a slight undulation; to E of the fence, the arc of the enclosure is barely discernible as a D-shaped area of slightly raised rough, disturbed ground, clipped on its S edge by the E−W garden boundary of a modern house. A stable/shed on the line of this boundary appears to overlie the SE edge of the enclosure. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 2 December 2021 - MA080-048: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA080-048----. In the former demesne of Ballinamore House, in a walled-off grove of beech and sycamore on the S margin of a pasture field, sited on a low rise with a gentle fall of ground towards the Geestaun River which is 130m to E. A tributary stream/drain flows past the S side of the rath. There are open views N along the course of the river, with a high ridge in the middle distance at NW−N. Ground rises to S beyond the stream, and high ground also bordering the E bank of the river. Indicated as a circular embanked enclosure on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; it is not shown on the 1919 edition but the grove of trees in which it is located is depicted as a walled-off area named ‘High Clump’. Raised circular platform (22.3m N−S; 23.4m E−W) defined by a scarp (H 1.8m at S & N, 1.5m at E), outside which it is enclosed by a fosse, with traces of a possible external bank at E. It has been boxed in by the field walls which enclose the grove. The rath utilises the contours of the natural rise. The platform scarp is high and steep on the N and S arc where it merges with the natural slope, and here the fosse is evident as a terrace (Wth 2.5-3m) cut into the slope and clipped on its outer edge by the E−W walls enclosing the wood. At SW the fosse can be traced as an arc of damp ground, and at W−NW the platform scarp is lower (H 0.5m) and the fosse (Wth 3m) cuts across the spine of the rise. A possible outer bank is evident only on the E arc where the fosse is bordered on its outer edge by a low earthen rise with a broad external slump (Wth 6-7m; ext. H 1.2m). There is a poorly defined slump in the platform scarp at NE, and another slight slump at SE (facing the stream) but it is unclear if either represents an original entrance. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 3 December 2021 - MA080-058: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA080-058----. In pasture, located on top of a roughly oval hillock bordered at its base on the N side by a stream. It is overlooked to NW by an upland ridge, and views are somewhat restricted to SE–S by gently undulating terrain. The top of the hillock is relatively level, with steeply sloping sides at W–N dropping c. 4m towards the stream and a much lower, gradual gradient at E–S. There is small-scale quarrying at various points on the top and sides of the hillock. This enclosure is indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; it is not shown on later map editions. It is located on the broader level W end of the hillock, close to the break of slope at W−N. It consists of a circular area (17m N–S; 17m E–W) enclosed by low, dilapidated sod-covered wall footings (Wth c. 1m). A section of the wall at SW–W shows that it is constructed of a double row of contiguous rough stones and boulders with rubble fill in the intervening space. A quarry pit (max dim. c. 10m) dug into the hill slope encroaches on the outer face of the wall at the SW, displacing some of the stones, and a section of wall at NE is similarly disturbed. The interior of the enclosure is level and not noticeably raised but appears slightly higher in the NE quadrant than elsewhere, and the interior just inside the wall E−SE appears slightly sunken. A rath (MA080-048----) is located on a rise on the opposite bank of the stream c. 100m to NE. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 6 December 2021 - MA080-059: Burnt mound, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA080-059----. In pasture, located on the W bank of the Geestaun River. A grove of trees, named ‘River Wood’ on the 1919 OS 6-inch map, lies immediately to S, bordering the river. Sod-covered, semi-circular rise (13m NNW–SSE; c. 6m ENE–WSW; H 0.3m) bordered on the straight side by the river. A ruined stone wall that lines the river bank merges with the straight E side of the mound and swings across the SW arc of the mound. The river is relatively shallow and the burnt mound may be located close to a fording point. There is a rath (MA080-048----) c. 200m to SSW and an enclosure (MA080-058----) c. 300m to SW. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 6 December 2021 - MA080-060: Burnt mound, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA080-060----. In a thicket of overgrowth, located 5m from W bank of a stream, sheltered at W by a low rise. A low mound (c. 8m N-S; 6m E-W) composed of a concentration of stone fragments in black soil. It is obscured by the roots of holly, hazel and blackthorn bushes that grow along the banks of the stream and it is difficult to determine the exact limits of the mound.
