In wet to average pasture, located on a rise in undulating terrain, adjacent to the NW boundary of the townland. This rath is named ‘Rathcurneen’ on the 1938 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps. It consists of a roughly circular area (c. 27m E–W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.35-0.4m; ext. H 1.7m, at W). The bank is best preserved at S and W. The inner face of the bank is low and degraded, with remnants of an internal stone facing or kerb evident in parts at E. A field bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.4m) curves around the rath at SSE–NW at a distance of 2-2.4m outside the bank, possibly preserving the line of an original fosse and external bank, but no evidence of external enclosing elements are evident on the E half of the rath. The interior has a slight slope down from W to E. There is a shallow depression/gap (max. dim. c. 5-6m) through the bank at W, and a low section of bank at SSW, but the location of the original entrance is uncertain. The rath is engulfed in blackthorn scrub. There is a possible enclosure (MA038-014----) c. 200m to SE. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 July 2019 - MA038-013: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA038-013----. In pasture, in an area of undulating terrain. Not shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map or on the 25-inch plan; depicted on the 1922 edition as a D-shaped hachured area bordered on the straight side to W by a field boundary. Included in the SMR (1991) and the RMP (1997) as ‘enclosure (site)’. A note in the SMR file records it as a destroyed enclosure. At this location there is as a D-shaped depression (14m NNW–SSE; 12m ENE–WSW; D 1.6m) with a concave inward-sloping scarp on the curving side, which falls to a relatively level base. On the straight side to W there is a steep external fall of ground, with remnants of a field fence on the top of this scarp. Ash trees grow in the interior, and gorse and brambles ring the perimeter. It appears to be a quarry pit of relatively recent date. No trace of an enclosure remains. There is a possible rath (MA038-014) c. 100m to NE. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 July 2019 - MA038-014: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA038-014----. In pasture, located on top of a rise, close to the break of slope on the NE side. There is a farmyard immediately to NE–E. This rath is shown on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps, where it is named ‘Rathandarris’; on the 1922 edition it is depicted as an oval enclosure (c. 22m E–W; c. 27m N–S) truncated on its S-SW edge by a straight NW-SE field boundary. The rath has been levelled, and part of the NE-E quadrant has been completely quarried away, with the steep quarried scarp dropping into the farmyard. There is a rath (MA038-012----) located c. 200m to NW. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 July 2019 - MA038-045: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA038-045----. In pasture, located on a prominent rise in an area of undulating terrain. Ground gradually shelving away towards the River Deel which lies 120m to S and marks the townland boundary. There are good views to SE and W along the course of the river. This rath is named ‘Rathmore’ on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps. Raised circular area (23.8m N–S; 24m E–W) defined by an earthen bank and enclosed by a fosse with an external bank. The inner bank (Wth 6.8m; int. H 1.1m; ext. 2.4m) has a broad internal slump, especially on the S half, which gives the interior a somewhat saucer-shaped profile. A rough kerb of stones is evident on the internal face at NE, and dry stone facing can also be seen on the external face on the south half of the rath. The fosse (Wth 4.4m) is evident as a broad, shallow depression. At SE–NE the external bank has been levelled to broad, low rise (Wth 6m); at NE–SE, where it was modified to serve as a field boundary, it survives as a bank (Wth c. 3m; int. H 1.3m; ext. H 1.2-1.4m) of earth and stone, with much field clearance stone heaped along it. The rath interior is relatively level, and is dotted with small, moss-covered heaps of field clearance stones. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2.2m) at ESE, with a causeway across the fosse. A corresponding gap in the external bank is no longer evident as this section of the bank is incorporated into a later field boundary. The inner bank is ringed with hawthorn, hazel and brambles. There is another rath (MA038-044001) 300m to W. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 July 2019 - MA038-046: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA038-046----. In pasture in undulating terrain, located on a rise with a steep slope on the E side. A stream/field drain skirts the base of the rise at NE–E and continues for 100m to S to meet the River Deel, which marks the townland boundary. This enclosure is shown on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps as a circular ringfort-sized enclosure (diam. c. 20m). It has been levelled; a low, flat-topped roughly circular rise (c. 14m E–W; 16-18m N–S), with a fall of ground on the E side, is evident. Adjacent field boundaries, which are shown to W, N and E on the 1922 OS 6-inch map, have been removed.
