Entrance to ground-floor through later doorway, placed directly in front of original doorway; contains two rooms (4.2m x 5.2m; 2.1m x 5.2m) with N room once covered by vault supported by dividing wall. Blocked up entrances on either end of N room. Mural stairs in later W wall leads to 1st-floor and wall-walk. Main chamber lighted by large arched windows in each gable (N and S), with rectangular windows on other walls. Three buttresess connected by two wicker-centered arches, carrying wall-walk and parapet, built against external face of E wall. Tower of three storeys with wall-walk and parapet, a later addition to S gable. Entrance to 1st-floor through doorway in 1st-floor of house. Ground-floor used as basement. 2nd-floor walls corbelled internally and externally to accomodate mural stairs to wall-walk. The above description has been derived from D. Knox (1904, 100) records this souterrain as follows: ‘In the flat above the castle [MA120-033001-] a couple of stones have fallen into the cave of an old fort [MA120-033003-] which occupied the end of the ridge. This would be the Cashel or Caher of the O’Caidhins, who have left their name in Ballykine, Baile O’Caidhin.' Pitched slate roof on a T-shaped plan centred on pitched (gabled) slate roof with trefoil-perforated crested terracotta ridge tiles centred on tuck pointed snecked limestone chimney stack on chamfered base having cut-limestone capping supporting crested terracotta pots, decorative timber bargeboards to gables on timber purlins, and replacement uPVC rainwater goods on exposed timber rafters retaining cast-iron downpipes. Part creeper- or ivy-covered tuck pointed snecked limestone walls on lichen-covered cut-limestone chamfered plinth with drag edged dragged cut-limestone flush quoins to corners. Square-headed central door opening with cut-limestone threshold, and drag edged dragged cut-limestone lintel framing timber panelled door. Square-headed flanking window openings with drag edged dragged cut-limestone sills, and drag edged dragged cut-limestone block-and-start surrounds framing replacement uPVC casement windows replacing two-over-two timber sash windows.
