Within an enclosure (MA093-015002-). The remains consist of a low, roughly rectangular rise (13m NNW–SSE; c. 8-10m ENE–WSW; H 0.4m) with an uneven, hummocky surface. It is scattered with low, sod-covered stones, probably gravemarkers. A sandpit, now disused, lies immediately to N. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 14 June 2022 - MA093-015002: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA093-015002-. In average pasture, ground falls away to NE, levelling out to an expanse of wet pasture and bog bordering Derrycreen Loughs. Views are good N−E; restricted to W by gently rising ground. Shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. 50-55m); by the time of the 1916 edition only the SSW−NNW arc of the enclosure is shown. This enclosure has been levelled but it is possible to trace the outline of a sub-circular area (diam. c. 40-45m), crossed roughly centrally by a later field fence on a NE–SW axis, and slightly truncated at S–SW by a field fence on a NW–SE axis. A scarp (H 0.9m) extending SW–NW in a shallow curve appears to preserve the W arc of the enclosure. Outside the scarp at SW–W is a slightly sunken trackway (Wth 3m; D 0.3m) on a NE–SW axis, which extends to NE beyond the enclosure for a few meters and then peters out; it is possible that this preserves the line of an original enclosing fosse. Very ephemeral traces of an enclosing scarp are also evident at SE. A sandpit (now disused) has destroyed most of the E half of the interior, leaving untouched only a small area in the SE quadrant occupied by a children’s burial ground (MA093-015001-). The site is known locally as a ‘fort’. In pasture, located on the gentle S-facing slope of a rise, with rather restricted views over the surrounding undulating terrain. Slightly raised circular area (36m E–W; 37.5m N–S) defined SW–NE by an earthen bank (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.1m at NNE) and elsewhere by a scarp (H 1.4m at S), outside which it is enclosed by a fosse (Wth 3m) with an external bank (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 0.2m at NNE). There is a slumped break (Wth 1.6m) in the bank/scarp at SE, but it is unclear if this represents an original entrance. The fosse is largely infilled and reduced to a shallow depression. The external bank is well defined at on the N half but has been levelled on the S half to a slight undulation. The interior slopes down gently from N to S–SW, and has an uneven surface, engulfed in long grass and weeds. The perimeter is moderately ringed with hawthorn and blackthorn bushes. Another rath (MA093-033----) is located 100m to ESE and is visible from this one.
