In pasture, located on a slight rise in gently rolling terrain broken by limestone outcropping. Subcircular area (36m N−S; c. 36m E−W) defined a broad, low grass-covered stony bank (Wth 3-4m; H 0.3-0.4m at N, ext. H 0.8m at S). The bank has a pronounced external slope on the S arc where there is a natural dip in exterior ground level, but it has been levelled to little more than a low undulation on the W arc, and it is truncated at E by old, grassed-over quarry pits (diam. c. 8m; D 0.5m) and SE (diam. c. 8m; D c. 0.8m). The S half of the interior encompasses a low domed rise from where the ground slopes downwards towards the perimeter. A limestone boulder protrudes from the NE edge. This part of the interior is obscured nettles, long grass and hawthorn trees. There is a rath (MA118-171----) 170m to SE, and a cluster of three raths (MA118-042---- to MA118-044----) is located within 200m to W and NW. A field system (MA118-165----) surrounds the raths. In pasture, immediately E of, and possibly associated with, cluster of ringforts (MA118-043----, MA118-044----, MA118-045----). Series of low earthen banks, defining subrectangular areas, covering an area of c. 3000 sq.m (Lavelle 1994, 76). The field system extends across and area of in gently rolling terrain broken by limestone outcropping. It is evident as a series of low, grass-covered stony banks/ walls (Wth 1-2m; H 0.2-0.3m) and linear undulations and scarps from which occasional stones and boulders protrude randomly. The remains are fragmentary and no longer define complete fields. Some of the low banks/walls follow natural contours or changes in ground level. They appear to have enclosed a network of small subrectangular fields, which became obsolete and were levelled and enlarged into the current layout of larger rectilinear field enclosed by drystone walls. There are relict cultivation ridges, now barely discernible, within the area of the field system. The field system surrounds a cluster of raths (MA118-042---- to MA118-045----; MA118-171----), and several of the banks/walls intersect with the raths. In the SE corner of a pasture field, located in gently rolling terrain. This rath is not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. Slightly raised D-shaped area (39m E−W; 29.5m N−S to field wall) defined on the curving side at SW−SE by low bank (Wth 2m at W, 2.5m at E; int. H 0.1-0.25m; ext. H 0.3m at W, 0.75m at E) and on the straight side to S by an E−W field wall, which forms the S boundary of the modern field. The enclosing bank is reduced almost to a scarp at W and to a low undulation for sections at NW-N. The best preserved section is on the E arc, where the external slope is enhanced by a natural dip in ground level. The rath must originally have been oval or circular, but the S arc (to S of the E−W field wall) has been levelled. A gap (Wth 3m) at E may be an original entrance. The interior is flat, featureless and grassy. There is a subcircular quarry pit (diam. c. 10m; D 1.5m) 3m to W of the rath, now partly concealed by hawthorn trees and overgrowth. A roughly N−S length of stony bank (Wth c. 1.7m; H 0.3m) extends between the quarry pit and the E−W property wall at S; this appears to be a remnant of a field wall, probably of later date than the rath; the gap between it and the rath bank varies between 2.5-3m. Another oval quarry pit (8m NW−SE; 5.5m NE−SW; D 1.4m) is located immediately to NE of the rath.
