In pasture, located on an undulation with a natural fall of ground towards a stream c. 30m to W, and overlooked immediately to SSE by a rise. Views are quite good to W, but not extensive due to undulating nature of the landscape. Roughly circular platform (22m N–S; 25.3m E–W) defined by a scarp (Wth slope 5.7m at NNW, 5.6m at S; H 2m at NNW, 1.2m at S), which is enhanced by the natural fall of ground to W. At E–SE the scarp is clipped by a NE–SW field wall. The interior is level and featureless. In pasture, situated on a natural rise with a fall of ground S–NW giving excellent views to W towards a stream valley. This possible rath is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a roughly D-shaped area (c. 25-30m N−S; c. 20m E−W) bordered on the straight E side by a field boundary; it is not shown on later map editions. Roughly oval, flat-topped raised area (22m E–W; 27m N-S) defined at SSW–N by a high, broadly sloping scarp (H 2m) which merges with the natural slope. The scarp is truncated on the E arc by a straight NNW–SSE field fence. This fence forms the E side of a rectilinear field which boxes in the rath. In pasture, a thicket of overgrowth, located on a rise. The Gweestion River is 200m to N. This rath is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as an oval enclosure (c. 60m NW−SE; c. 45m NE−SW), skirted by a laneway at S; it is not shown on the 1931 edition. The W third of this originally oval rath has been levelled. The E portion of the rath survives as a D-shaped earthen platform (22m NE–SW; 25-30m NW−SE) defined N–SW by a bank/scarp, outside which there is a fosse with remnants of an external bank. A NE–SW property fence defines the straight side of the platform. To W of the fence, the SW arc of the enclosure can still be traced as a degraded scarp but the fosse and external bank are not evident; the NE quadrant has been dug away and levelled out. The inner bank (Wth 5.4-5.8; int. H 0.2-0.6m; ext. H 1.4m at SE, 2m at SW) on the curving side of the platform survives mainly as a scarp, retaining only a slight internal lip at E–S. At NE it has been incorporated into a field fence on a NW–SE axis. The fosse (Wth 3.2m at SE, 4m at SSW) is evident at N–NE as a very shallow depression and at E–SSW it is broad and flat-bottomed with steep sides where it was incorporated into the laneway (shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map). The external bank (Wth 4.4m; int. H 1.1-1.5m; ext. H 1.2m) survives only at E–SE. A low area or slump (Wth c. 2m) in the inner bank at E may mark an original entrance. There appears to be a broad depression, perhaps the result of quarrying, to W of centre in the rath interior. The rath is covered in dense blackthorn, hawthorn, elder and sycamore trees. Located in lowlying, improved pasture, just S of a large bend in the River Gweestion. This possible rath is shown as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) named 'Lisnacromoge' on 1838 OS 6-inch map, with a stream or canal, which links to the Gweestion River, immediately to N; it is not shown on later map editions. It has been levelled. A low irregular, elongated rise (c. 25m N–S; c. 15m E–W) without clearly defined edges can be discerned. Two narrow linear gullies or trenches (Wth 0.6-0.8m; D 0.2m), set 2m apart, extend across the interior on a NNE–SSW axis; they appear to be relatively recent in date and their function is unclear. The enclosing scarp is at S–W is rather low and degraded. The external bank and part of the fosse have been truncated at W–NW by a modern road and have been levelled N–S. The original entrance may have been to the SSE where there is a dilapidated gap (Wth 2m) in the bank. A low mound (3.2m NE–SW; 4.6m NW–SE; H 0.5m) of earth and stone is located to NE of centre in the level interior, probably a field clearance heap. The rath perimeter is ringed with hawthorn and hazel, and much of the interior is engulfed in a dense spread of brambles which impeded examination. A heap of large field clearance boulders is dumped in the fosse at SE. There are raths (MA 071-013----; MA071-014----) 120m to NW and 230m to NNE, respectively. In improved pasture, in a stand of hazel trees, utilising a low rise on gently N-facing slope that falls 40m to the banks of the Gweestion River. This rath is named ‘Lissheela’ on the 1838 and 1931 OS 6-inch maps and is shown enclosed by a fosse and possible external bank. The remains consist of a circular earthen platform (33.5m E−W; 33.5m N−S) defined by a high earthen scarp (2.5m at SW−NW; 1.35m at E). Large stones and boulders protrude randomly in parts from the scarp, especially towards the base. The fosse is evident as a slight depression marked by a band (Wth 3m) of richer grass growth. There is no trace of an external bank. The enclosing scarp is lowest at E, the most likely location for an original entrance. A spine of raised ground extends across the centre of the interior on an E-W axis, with a possible souterrain (MA071-017001-) incorporated into its W end. At the E end of the rise there is a low concentration (diam. c. 2m) of stones, including a large prostrate slab, at the base of a few hazel trees. The rath is densely covered in hazel trees. All the field boundaries shown adjacent to and abutting the rath on the OS maps have been removed. There is a rath (MA071-014----) 260m to WSW. In a rath (MA071-017----). A shallow depression (Wth 2.6–3m; D 0.45m) is evident in the W half of an E-W rise which extends across the centre of the rath interior. The depression extends from close to the rath scarp at the W into the interior for 13.5m to E and then turns to S for 5m where it becomes slightly narrower and shallower (Wth 2.4m; D 0.3m). Stones protrude randomly from the sides, and the base is moderately strewn with loose stones. The roots of hazel trees have infiltrated the depression. In a thicket of overgrowth in the SW corner of a modern rectangular pasture field, straddling a rise. A circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) is shown on 1838 OS 6-inch map; it is not shown on later map editions. According to local information, it was known locally as a 'fort'. It consisted of a raised area bisected by a N–S field fence, which is extant. The portion of the enclosure that lay to the W of the fence was entirely dug away to the level of the surrounding field. Quarrying also took place to E of the fence where a roughly D-shaped pit (10m E–W; c. 8m N–S; D c. 1m) is still evident beneath the overgrowth. A possible rath (MA071-009----), also levelled, is 60m to SE. In pasture, located on a rise. An oval enclosure is shown on 1838 OS 6-inch map, incorporated at E–S into a field boundary, abutted by buildings at S, and bordered at SW and W by a laneway. The remains consist of a roughly D-shaped raised area (max. dim. 25m N–S) clipped at N by an E−W field fence, defined NE–S by a curving earthen scarp (H 1.8m; Wth slope 5m) and bordered on the straight side at W by a field fence, outside which is a lane on a roughly NNE–SSW axis. It is known locally as 'the garden' and traditionally said to be the site of a 'fort'. Located in pasture, on the SW end of a small ridge/knoll. Not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch mapping. Listed in the SMR (1991) and the RMP (1997) as an earthwork on the basis of poorly defined subcircular feature visible in an aerial photograph (GSI M691-0; Roll 231, pr. 8). A roughly N–S field fence traverses the hill. To the E of the fence, there is a disused sand-pit dug into the hill slope. The features visible in the aerial photograph appear to represent the natural contours of a knoll and the small sand pit quarried out of the NE slope.
