It is 57.7 km in length and travels from Cashla 110 kV substation in Barrettspark in central County Galway and traverses northwest to the Dalton 110 kV substation (County Mayo). The OHL has a total of 271no. supporting structures. Within the functional area of Mayo County Council, there is 24.7 km of the existing OHL circuit, with 111no. structures. The proposed development within Co. In the NW quadrant of a cashel (MA121-123001----). In a 1983 field report it was noted that a ‘vaguely defined rectilinear feature against the inside of the cashel wall on the NNW could represent the remains of a hut site but this is doubtful.’ On the N side the feature was defined by the cashel wall, on the E and W by a few stones jutting out from the wall, and on the S side by ‘some stones in the surface.’ (SMR file, 1983). In a 1983 field report 'a number of rectilinear enclosures outlined by low banks of earth and stone', and were interpreted as 'part of an old field system.' (SMR file, 1983). Recorded by Lavelle (1994, 51, no. 332) as follows: 'In reclaimed pasture, possibly associated with cashel.
