In pasture, located on a ridge, utilising the fall of ground at SW−NW. There are excellent views, especially to W−SW along the valley of the Gweestion River, which lies c. 60m to W, and of the undulating terrain beyond; to SE the view is along the level top of the ridge and of a parallel ridge in the middle distance at NE−SE. This bivallate rath consists of a substantially raised platform (c. 65m NNW−SSE; c. 45m ENE−WSW) defined by a scarp (H 3.5m at W, 1.5-1.6m at E), outside which it is enclosed by a fosse with a possible external bank. The scarp retains a hint of a raised internal lip in parts, particularly at NW. It is lowest at E, suggesting that the entrance might have been on that side, possible at ESE where a slump/possible gap is now obscured by a later field fence which crosses it. A semicircular pit (c. 10m by 10m) has been deeply quarried out of the scarp at N. At ENE−SE, the fosse can be traced as a shallow depression with no trace of an external bank. At SSW−NNE the fosse takes the form of a terrace/flat gap (Wth 2.4m), bordered on its outer edge by a bank/fence (Wth c. 2m; int. H 0.65m) of earth and stone, which merges with the steep ridge slope; this appears to be a modern field fence, but may preserve the curve of an original external bank. At NE the field fence curves in to merge with the rath scarp. The interior is relatively level. There appears to be a slight rise (diam. 6-8m), best defined on the N arc, in the centre of the rath; it was obscured by overgrowth on the date of inspection. A field fence on a NE−SW axis crosses SE part of the rath, and a perpendicular fence extends to SE. The rath is thickly ringed with blackthorn, hawthorn and hazel trees; brambles and blackthorn scrub are encroaching on the interior. The centre is remains largely free of scrub, but is covered with ferns. In pasture, located on a ridge with very good views at N-E, somewhat restricted at S−W by a gentle rise in the spine of the ridge. The ridge is skirted by a river 300m to SW and by a stream 300m to NE. Roughly circular platform (31.2m N−S; 30m E−W) defined by a bank/scarp, outside which it is enclosed by a fosse. The bank remains well defined at NE−SE (Wth 3.7m; int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.3m, at E), but is reduced to a scarp (ext. H 0.7m at S, 1.7m at N) elsewhere around the circuit. At E it is incorporated into a field fence which extends beyond the rath to N. The scarp is adapted to serve as a property boundary at SE−W, where it is topped by a post and wire fence and engulfed in gorse. The fosse is evident as a depression (Wth c. 3m; ext. D 0.7m) at S−W; here stones protruded from the slope of the fosse and it has a low stony external lip (Wth 1m) –these features are likely to be the result of modification in the modern era. The fosse becomes increasing shallow (Wth 2m) at W−N, and is not discernible on the E half. There is no clearly defined entrance; a narrow break at SSE is used by cattle. A low, tumbled field wall on a NW−SE axis crosses the SW part of the interior. The interior is grassy; the bank is ringed with gorse. In average pasture, located on top of a ridge, at its SW edge where there is a steep fall of ground into the valley of the Gweestion River which is 200m to SW. There are excellent views along the valley, especially to W, and good views also along the spine of the ridge top to N and SE. Circular platform (38.5m N−S; 29m E−W) defined by a bank/scarp, outside which it is enclosed by a fosse and external bank. The inner bank (Wth 4.2m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 2.2m) retains a low internal lip on the S arc, and is reduced to a scarp (H 1.4m; Wth slope 2.3m, at N) elsewhere. The fosse (Wth 3m) and external bank (Wth 2.9m; int. 0.5m; ext. H 0.7m) are well defined at SSE−NNW. At N−E the fosse is evident as a shallow surface depression and there is no trace of the external bank. At E the fosse terminates at a low rise (L 4m) of earth and large stones. This coincides with a section of the rath scarp at E−SE which is very low and broadly slumped, possibly marking an original entrance. The interior is flat, and is traverses by relict cultivation ridges on a roughly E−W axis. A very slight N−S stony linear feature (L 5m; Wth 0.6m) extends from the inner face of the bank at SSE into the interior. Grass cover with a few hawthorn trees around the perimeter. There is a rath (MA071-134----) 200m to NE. In pasture, on a ridge top, just below the summit, at the break of slope on the S side. At the base of the slope at SW there small valley of wet ground with another ridge beyond that on which a rath (MA071-133----) is visible 200m to SW. There are good views to N−E along a small river valley, with the river located 200m to N. Two other raths (MA071-135----; MA071-136----) are located c. 240m to SE. Broadly oval raised area (26m N−S; 29.7m E−W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.1m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.4m), which is reduced to a scarp (H 2.2m) at SE−W. A few stones protrude randomly from the scarp. On the SW the scarp has been adapted to serve as a field boundary. The interior is level, except for a slight slope down to S in the S third. Traces of cultivation ridges on a roughly E-W axis traverse the interior. Grass cover, with a few hawthorn trees around the perimeter.
