In pasture, located on SSW-facing slope, giving extensive views over gently undulating terrain SE–W. Slightly raised circular area (44.2m E–W; 38m N–S) defined by an earthen bank, outside which it is enclosed by a fosse with an external bank. The inner bank is evident as a low broadly-slumped rise (Wth 5-6m). On the upslope N half it has a substantial internal slump (int. H 1.6m; ext. H 1m at NE); on the S half it is very low internally but has a pronounced external drop (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.7m at SW). A section (L 11m) of the bank at N has been dug away. The fosse is well defined, varying in width from c. 2m at NE, to 2.5m at NW and c. 3m at SE. The external bank (Wth 3.5-4m; int. H 1.5m; ext. 0.5m) survives intact at NW, but is engulfed in overgrowth and difficult to examine. At N−E it has been largely levelled, but remnants survive at SE. An earth and stone field fence curves around the rath at SSE–NW, incorporating or truncating the outer bank. A gap (Wth 3m) in the inner bank at ESE may indicate the original entrance, and is now use for tractor access. The interior slopes down from N to S. The surface is rather uneven and there are traces of possible cultivation ridges. A souterrain (MA082-015002-) is located close to the bank in the W half of the interior. The rath interior is grassy; the perimeter is ringed with blackthorn, hawthorn and gorse. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 20 December 2021 - MA082-015002: Souterrain, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA082-015002-. In the W half of a rath (MA082-015001-). A ‘souterrain’ is indicated in the centre of the W half of the rath on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. According local information, the souterrain, which has two stone-built chambers, was accessible in the mid-20th century, but was subsequently blocked up. A roughly circular depression (diam. c. 3m) close to the rath bank at W marks the location. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 20 December 2021 - MA082-021: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA082-021----. In pasture, located on the top of a ridge, close to the break of slope at S. There are extensive views to NNE–W over a broad sweep of countryside, and to N−NW along the top of the ridge. This enclosure is not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps, but a shallow N–E arc is shown in the townland boundary on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, and a semi-circular arc of field boundaries curving W–E is shown on the 1916 edition. On the ground, a semi-circular area (diam. c. 60m E–W) roughly conforming to the contours of the hill is defined by an earth and stone field fence (Wth 2m; H 1.2m) with an accompanying external field ditch. The crown of the hill, comprising a fairly level area (diam. c. 25-30m) is located within the area defined by the arc of field fence. There is no clear evidence that this constitute a rath or archaeological enclosure. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 20 December 2021 - MA082-031: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA082-031----. In pasture, located on a slight rise in gently undulating terrain. Raised circular area (27.5m N–S; 27.3m E–W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5-3m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.7m). The bank is roughly topped with stones in parts, and stones protrude also from the inner face. It is low internally, reduced almost to a scarp in parts at N–NE and SW. A small section has been partly dug away at N. There are numerous small eroded breaks in the bank, with larger breaks at S (Wth 1m) and at WSW (Wth 2.8m), but the location of the original entrance is unclear. The interior ground level appears to be somewhat higher in the N–NW quadrant. There is a slight hollow (diam. c. 2m) roughly in the centre of the interior and ephemeral traces of cultivation ridges on a N–S axis. A property fence, on a NE–SW axis, crosses the NW edge of the interior. The interior is grassy; the perimeter is ringed with hawthorn. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 22 December 2021 - MA082-032: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA082-032----. In pasture, located on a rise on elevated ground, with good views, somewhat restricted to E by rising ground. Circular area (46.6m N–S; 45.2m E–W) defined on the W half by a partly levelled earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.6m, at NW), reduced elsewhere to a scarp (ext. H 0.55 at E, 0.9m at S). The rath straddles the natural rise, incorporating the higher ground in the W of the interior, from where there is a gentle slope down to NE, E and SE. The enclosing scarp is built up higher on the S to compensate for the natural slope. There is a break (Wth 5m) at SE, possibly the original entrance. Grass cover, with a few hawthorn bushes on the perimeter.
