- MA110-039: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA110-039----. In pasture , located on a level terrace, from the N edge of which there is a gentle fall of ground to N-NW for 50m to the SE shore of Lough Carra. There are excellent views W-N across the lake, with Croagh Patrick and Nephin Mountains visible on the far horizon at NNW and N, respectively. A standing stone (MA110-088----) is visible on elevated ground c. 230m to SW. To SE-S, ground rises gently, restricting views. This partly levelled enclosure is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map but is not shown on the 1917 edition. Lavelle (1994, 52, no. 344) recorded that it is ‘Levelled; no visible surface traces. Possibly a ringfort.' However, an inspection in 2017 found that the outline of the enclosure, though very low-profile, can still be trace at ground level. It consists of a flat, roughly circular area (51m NE−SW; 47m NW−SE) defined by two banks with an intervening fosse. The inner bank is evident as a slight undulation or scarp (Wth c. 1.6m; ext. H 0.2m), the fosse can be traced as a shallow depression (Wth 1.6-2m), and the external bank as a low rise (Wth c. 2m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.2m at W, 0.5-0.6m at NW-N). The original entrance may have been along the E−S arc, where the enclosing elements are not discernible. - MA110-088: Standing stone, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA110-088----. In pasture, converted to forestry in December 2016, located on level top of a N−S elevation on the SE shore of Lough Carra. Ground falls away gently from the N edge of the elevation for c. 140m to the lakeshore. The location provides excellent views northwards across Lough Carra, with Croagh Patrick and Nephin visible in the distance to NNW and N, respectively. The Partry Mountains define the horizon to W, and the mountains of Connemara dominate at SW. Views are restricted at NE−SE by gently rising, undulating pastureland. Limestone slab (H 1.43m; W 1.1m NNE-SSW at base; T 0.5m at NNE end, 0.28m at SSW end) set upright in the ground, with long axis aligned NNE−SSW. The slab narrow gradually from the base (Wth 1.1m NNE−SSW) to the flat top (Wth 0.65m NNE−SSW) on its long axis. A right-angled vertical fracture, which extends the full height of the stone on its WNW face, gives the stone a roughly L-shaped cross-section, and causes an abrupt narrowing at the SSW end of the stone. The surface of the stone on its sides and top is naturally rather rough and corrugated in appearance; except for the SE face which is relatively smooth. The stone tilts slightly to WNW. A shallow depression encircles the base of the stone, caused by farm stock using the stone as a scratching post. Compiled: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 20 January 2017

In pasture, located on a low elevation, with a fall of ground to S−SW, in an area of fertile, gently undulating terrain. Lough Carra is c. 1.3km to W. This large enclosure is not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. It is visible in satellite imagery, the best view recorded in Google Earth imagery dated 11/24/2016, which shows a roughly oval enclosure (diam. c. 100m E−W; c. 80m N-S) defined by a broad levelled bank; the bank on the NW arc appears to be somewhat less substantial and there appears to be a wide break at W; the faint rectangular outline of a possible building (MA110-090001-) is visible in the NW quadrant. The enclosure was levelled at an unknown date in the past, and is barely discernible now at ground level -a slight undulation is apparent but the full circuit is difficult to trace. There is an electricity pole on the W edge of the enclosure.
