In a thicket of blackthorn and hazel in a pasture field, crowning the narrow top of a NW–SE rise/small ridge in an area of undulating terrain. Ground falls away for 100m to S–SW toward the meandering Trimoge River, with a bend in the river just to NW. Views are generally not extensive but a break in the encircling ridges opens a distant view to NW of Nephin Mountain and the Nephin Beg Range. This is one of three ringbarrows in a close-set NW–SE row on the ridge top; a second ringbarrow (MA071-101001-) is 5m to NW and a third (MA071-101002-) lies immediately to NW of the second. This barrow is indicated on the 1838 and 1931 OS 6-inch maps. A low, central circular platform (diam. 5.4m; H 0.25m) is enclosed by a fosse (Wth 1.5-1.7m) with an external bank (Wth 2-2.3m; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 0.55-0.6m), outside which is a second fosse (Wth W 1.9m; D 0.2m), with possible traces at NNE of an external bank. The central platform is low but well defined. Both fosses are shallow and the intervening bank of earth and stone is compact and well defined. There is a break (Wth 1.4m) in the outermost bank at NNE. A central circular platform (diam. 4.7m) defined by a scarp (H 0.35m) with a hint of an internal lip, and enclosed by a fosse (Wth 1.5-1.7m) with an external bank (Wth 1.7m; int. H 0.2-0.4m; ext. H 0.2-0.4). A causeway-like feature (Wth 1.5m) extends from the central platform across the fosse at SW. The barrow is located at the narrow tip of the ridge, and spans its full width. The stream is c. 270m to NE. An oval enclosure (c. 49m NW−SE; c. 45m NE−SW) is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, with its SE arc coinciding with the townland boundary; it is indicated on the 1931 edition as an irregular-shaped oblong enclosure, with an indentation on the W side. Irregular-shaped oblong area (57m NW−SE; c. 35-37m NE−SW), constricting across the central NE-SW axis (29.5m NE-SW). This gives it a slightly figure-of-eight appearance in plan. It is defined by a bank/scarp which is incorporated into a series of field boundaries at N−SW, coinciding with the townland boundary between Collagh at W and Gortnasilla at E. The bank/scarp (Wth 1.7-2.3m at SSW, 3m at N; int. H 0.6m at SSW, 0.3m at N; ext. H 0.85m at SSW, 1.7m at N) has remnants of stone facing, now tumbled, on its external slope. There is a slight depression (Wth c. 3m) outside the bank at NW−N, which might indicate a fosse but is not evident elsewhere. There are several breaks, eroded by cattle, but no clearly defined entrance. The SE end of the interior appears very slightly higher. In improved pasture, crowning the summit of a ridge, with panoramic views. Overlooks a stream valley to NE. Not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch mapping. Listed in the SMR (1991) and the RMP (1997) as a possible enclosure on the basis of roughly circular feature, crossed by a roughly E−W field fence, which is visible in an aerial photograph (SMR file: GSI M 689 -8; Roll 217, pr. 34). When inspected in 1997, the E−W field fence was extant. To S of the fence, an ephemeral undulation outlined a semicircular area (15m E-W; c. 14m N-S to the fence). An outer undulation or contour (overall diam. c. 20-25m E-W) curved around this at a distance of 10m. These features appeared to represent the S half of the possible enclosure. In pasture, straddling a rise on the crown of a hill, with panoramic views in all directions, including Nephin Mountain to NW. There is gentle rise in ground level immediately to S of the cairn. Sub-circular, sod-covered cairn (13.5m E–W; 12m N–S) of earth and stone, defined by a scarp (H 1.1m at E, 0.8m at W; W slope 3.2m at E, 1.9m at W). The sides of the cairn are well defined, except to S where it grades into surrounding ground level. The top of the cairn (8.4m E–W; 9.8m N–S) is fairly level but has a rather uneven surface broken by stones protruding from the sod.
