In pasture, located on a prominent rise overlooking Crossbeg Lough, which is 120m to SW and is now drained and converted to pasture. A roughly circular platform (overall diam. 7-8m; top, c. 4m; H 0.85m) of earth and stone, with a hint of a raised internal lip (Wth c. 1m), and enclosed externally by a fosse (Wth1.2-1.8m; D 0.2-0.3m) which is evident as a shallow depression. Sections of the fosse at NE, SE and W are entirely silted up or are filled with field clearance stones. The mound is partly obscured by gorse and brambles. Located c. 20m to NW of an ecclesiastical enclosure (MA082-035004-) known as Disert Bibar. This monument is not shown on the 1837 OS 6-inch map; it is shown on the 1916 edition as a small circular hachured feature (diam. 12-15m), named 'Corheen'. When inspected in 1988, it consisted of a low, roughly oval, flat-topped mound (17m E–W; 13m N–S), which appeared more likely to be a platform for a house or structure, rather than a burial mound (SMR file: OPW field notes 1988). It has been destroyed; a commercial motor garage overlies the location. Within an ecclesiastical enclosure (MA082-035004-). Indicated as ‘Church (Site of)’ on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. The church is located on a raised area (c. 25m N–S; c. 20m E–W) in the centre of the ecclesiastical enclosure. The remains are scant. Wall footings (L 7-8m; Wth 0.7m; H 0.1m) define the S side of a roughly rectangular hollow (c. 6m E–W; c. 5m N–S) which may preserve the outline of the church. Lying within this rectangular hollow is a bullaun stone (MA082-035005-) and a possible standing stone (MA082-035006-). Another church (MA082-035002-) is located c. 30m to NE. A single hawthorn tree stands to NE of the hollow. On the E edge of an ecclesiastical enclosure (MA082-035004-). This church is indicated as ‘Ch. (in Rns.)’ on the 1916 OS 6-inch map where it is depicted as an E−W rectangular building, defined by walls on the S, W and N sides, but open on the E side which coincides with the enclosing wall of the ecclesiastical enclosure. A slightly sunken rectangular area (10m E–W; 11m N–S), outlined by low scarps, preserves the outline of the church. There is another church (MA082-035001-) 30m to SW. In an ecclesiastical enclosure (MA082-035004-) with two churches (MA082-035001-; MA082-035001-). Not indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; indicated as ‘Burial Gd. (Site of)’ on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. The interior of the ecclesiastical enclosure was used as a burial ground. No graves are now evident. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 22 December 2021 - MA082-035004: Ecclesiastical enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA082-035004-. In pasture, located on a rise in undulating terrain, overlooked by a hill at NW. It overlooks Crossbeg Lough, now drained, 300m to N, and another lake, Crossard Lough is located 260m to E. Not shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; shown on the 1916 edition as a hachured enclosure called ‘Disert Bibar’, within which a church ‘Site of’ (MA082-035001) and a church ‘in Rns’ ( MA082-035002), a burial ground MA082-035003) and a bullaun stone (MA082-035005) are indicated. This early medieval ecclesiastical enclosure consists of a sub-circular area (91m WNW–ESE; 91m NNW–SSE) enclosed by a low, sod-covered stone bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.8m). The stone bank, which probably represents a collapsed wall, has been partly levelled at NW–SE; it is overlain at S by a straight E–W field fence, and at SSW–N is incorporated into another stone field fence (Wth 1m) which respects the curve of the enclosure. Shallow remnants of a field ditch (Wth 0.8m) are evident on the inner face of the field fence at S and W. Immediately outside the enclosing wall at W–N a low scarp (Wth 1.7m; H 0.5m) respecting the curve of the enclosure; it is unclear if this is part of the primary enclosing element of the enclosure. The enclosure straddles a natural rise, incorporating level elevated ground in the W half, with a marked slope down from there to NE–E (drop in height c. 1.7m), and a more gentle slope down to SE. Slightly to SE of centre, straddling this break of slope, there is a raised subrectangular area (c. 25m N–S; c. 20m E–W) defined at SW–NNE by a sod-covered stone bank (Wth 1.5m; H 0.5m) which changes at NE–S to a much less distinct scarp (H c. 1.2m) that merges with the natural fall of ground. Located on this raised area, is a church (MA082-035002), indicated as ‘Church (Site of) on the 1916 OS 6-inch map, and visible now as a slight, roughly rectangular hollow. Lying within the hollow, is a bullaun stone (MA082-035005) and a possible standing stone (MA082-035006). A single hawthorn tree stand at the NE edge of the hollow. A number of low undulations/sod-covered stones banks (Wth 1.5-1.7m; H 0.4-0.6) radiating from the central raised area, creating internal divisions within the large enclosure. Two such divisions, one extending to NNW and the other to NE, separate the level elevated W quadrant of the interior from the lower, sloping ground in the N–NE quadrant. In the E half of the interior, more ephemeral divisions outline a rectangular area (23m E–W, 11m N–S) extending from the central raised area to the perimeter wall at E. This rectangular area is slightly sunken and is sub-divided by a N–S cross wall, surviving only as a slight scarp, into two unequal parts. The smaller sunken area (10m E–W; 11m N–S) to E is, according to local tradition, the site of the second church (MA082-035002-), which is marked as ‘Ch. (in Rns.)’ on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. It is located on a raised area in the centre of the ecclesiastical enclosure, within a rectangular hollow which preserves the outline of a church (MA082-035001-). In the centre of an ecclesiastical enclosure (MA082-035004-). An irregular-shaped, prostrate slab (L 1.4m; Wth 0.95m; T 0.1-0.4m), which, according to local information, originally stood upright on the central rise in the enclosure. It is now lying within a rectangular hollow, all that remains of a church (MA082-035001-). There is a bullaun stone (MA082-035005-) immediately to E. In pasture, located on level ground on the margins of the original flood plain of Crossbeg Lough, which is c. 70m to SE but is now drained and converted to pasture. Ground rises gently to NW, with higher ridges to N and NE. Roughly circular, grass-covered flat-topped rise (diam. 12.5-14m; H 0.6m) with broadly slumping sides. It appears to be largely earthen but incorporates some stones. Growing from the centre of the platform are two hawthorn trees, at the roots of which a heap (diam. 2m; H 0.4m) of loose stone has accumulated.
