In pasture, on a low ridge, with good views especially to S–NW. Ground falls away to SW to a flat expanse of damp pasture. A circular embanked enclosure (diam. 30-35m), probably a rath, is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; it is not shown on the 1931 edition. It has been levelled but the ephemeral outline of a roughly circular area (31.5m NW–SE; 34.7 NE-SW) can still be traced, defined on the SW half by the hint of a scarp and on the NE half by a slight undulation. It is crossed roughly centrally by a field fence on a NNW–SSE axis. There are raths (MA071-036----; MA061-199----; MA071-039----; MA071-038----) 255m to W, 120m to N; 200m to E and 120m to S respectively. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 July 2021 - MA071-038: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA071-038----. In pasture, located on a rise in gently undulating terrain. Ground falls gently towards a stream 70m to S. Slightly raised subcircular area (30.7m N−S; 34.6m E−W) defined by a dilapidated earthen bank which retains a low internal lip and is reduced to a scarp at SSE−SW. The bank/scarp has been modified and incorporated into later field fences at WSW−N and ESE−SE and is topped with a loose jumble (Wth 1m; H 0.6m) of stones. On the SW arc the external slope of the scarp has been cut to the vertical and faced with stone walling. Remnants of field fences, removed elsewhere in the field, abut the rath at SW and NE. A slight depression (Wth 3m) is evident outside the bank on the NE arc, possibly a fosse, but it cannot be traced elsewhere around the circuit. The interior slopes down from centre to S and SW. A gap (Wth 1.6m) at ENE may be an original entrance. There are also two narrow eroded breaks (Wth 0.6m) at N. Ground surface in the interior is lightly strewn with stones A quarry pit (c. 8.5m N−S; 14.5m E−W; D 1.1m) cuts into the interior from the scarp at W The rath is densely ringed with hawthorn, hazel and blackthorn trees, and hazel trees grow throughout the interior. There are raths (MA071-036----; MA071-037----; MA071-039----; MA071-040----) 260m to NW, 120m to N; 255m to NE and 370m to ENE, respectively. In pasture, located on a ridge, close to the break of slope on the S side. Ground falls towards a stream 30m to S. Views are restricted now by trees and farm buildings. Slightly raised circular area (26.3m E−W; 25.5m N−S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.2m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1m at WNW) on the W half of the circuit, reduced to a scarp (H 2.4m; Wth slope 4.2m) on the E half. The bank has a very low internal slope, with stones protruding in parts. The scarp is lowest on the NE arc and a poorly defined, slumped section (Wth c. 3m) of at NE, facing the spine of the ridge top, may mark an original entrance. Grass cover, with hawthorn trees around the perimeter on the E half. There are raths (MA071-037----; MA071-038----; MA071-040----) 200m to NW, 220m to SW and 100m to E, respectively. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 July 2021 - MA071-199: Burnt mound, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA071-199----. In reclaimed, damp pasture, located on the N bank of a stream in a sheltered stream valley. There are raths (MA071-039----; MA071-040----) are located 30m to NW 60m to ESE, respectively. When inspected in 1997, discrete surface patches of very black soil incorporating angular sandstone fragments were exposed in an area of reclaimed ground bordering the N side of the stream. It was not possible to determine the full extent of the remains, which may represent a levelled burnt mound or fulacht fia.
