Located at the break of slope on the SW side of a ridge, in an area of rough pasture which was planted with deciduous trees in the early 1990's. A circular embanked enclosure (diam. 20-25m), possibly a rath, is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, but not on later editions. It has been levelled. When inspected in 1997, the location was evident as a roughly circular area (diam. c. 16-20m) of rough stony, rather hard-packed ground marked by long grass. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 July 20 - MA071-033: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA071-033----. In pasture, located on a rise in undulating terrain, with good views to NW along a shallow valley of damp pasture. There is a stream/drain 60m to W and another 140m to N. Roughly circular platform (22.6m N−S; 23.3m E−W) defined by a scarp (H 0.85m at NW, 0.9m at SE; Wth slope 1.6m at NW, 1.3m SE). There is natural fall of ground outside the scarp at SW−NW. There is no obvious entrance feature –it may have been on the E side where the rath faces level ground. The interior is level and featureless. A NW−SE field fence clips the scarp at NE−E. The rath perimeter is ringed with hawthorn, hazel and blackthorn bushes, with an outer arc of overgrowth 4m outside the rath at S; the interior is grass-covered, with nettles and brambles. Another rath (MA071-034----) is located 230m to SE. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 July 2021 - MA071-034: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA071-034----. In pasture, prominently sited at the break of slope at the NNW end of a ridge, giving extensive views over the surrounding rolling grassland, especially to NW along a shallow valley of damp pasture. There is a stream/drain c. 200m W. Roughly circular raised area or platform (31.4m ESE−WNW; c. 35m NNE−SSW) defined by a bank/scarp, incorporating stones in parts. The bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.85m at ESE) retains a very low internal lip at E−SE and is reduced to a scarp (Wth slope 3m; ext. H 1.2m at W) elsewhere around the circuit. Sections of the scarp at NW and NE are eroded and dilapidated. There is a low area or break (Wth 2m) at NE. A souterrain (MA071-034001) occupies the W half of the interior. There appears to be a depression, defined on the S side by a low N-facing scarp (H c. 0.5m), in the NE quadrant but it is engulfed in overgrowth and could not be examined closely. Hawthorn and blackthorn bushes engulf the E half of the rath perimeter, and blackthorn scrub encroaches at the N and SE of the interior. Another a rath (MA071-033----) is located 230m to NW. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 July 2021 - MA071-034001: Souterrain, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA071-034001-. In a rath (MA071-034----). A collapsed souterrain passage or chamber is evident as a grassed-over, subrectangular depression (11.4m NNE–SSW; 4.5m WNW–ESE; D 0.7m) extending on a roughly NE−SW axis through the W half of the rath interior. A large stone is evident at the S end of the depression. A lintelled opening (Wth 0.57m; H 0.4m) in the N end of the depression reveals an intact dry-stone passage (Wth c. 1m; H c. 0.7m) with lintel roofing. The walls are constructed of rough, random rubble, and are slightly corbelled towards the top to support the roof slabs. The passage floor is earthen and is strewn with loose stones. The passage extends on a slight curve for c. 6.6m to the NW towards the rath scarp, where another lintelled opening, now blocked, is visible in the scarp. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 July 2021 - MA071-035: Barrow - ring-barrow, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA071-035----. In pasture, in a thicket of overgrowth on the W edge of modern rectangular field, located on a slight rise with good but not extensive views. A very slightly raised, roughly circular area (10.3m N–S; 10m E–W) defined by the remains of a bank (Wth 1.2m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.55m, at SSW). The bank is largely earthen but incorporates stones in parts. It is best preserved at E–SW but is low and degraded elsewhere, with sections at W and N which are almost entirely levelled. The centre of the interior appears to be gently raised or domed, but is difficult to examine due to overgrowth. It is in a dilapidated condition and is ringed with hawthorn and blackthorn bushes. There is property fence immediately to NW. Classification of this monument is difficult -it may be a ring-barrow. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 July 2021 - MA071-200: Fulacht fia, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA071-200----. Located in flat, partly reclaimed, damp pasture, bordered to NE by rising ground. Sub-circular, sod-covered mound (12m E–W; c. 10m N–S; H 0.4m at W), with an indentation or hollow (Wth 1.8m) at S that may indicate the position of a trough. The mound is clearly defined at S–NW but the limits are less distinct at NE–E. It underlies a layer of dark peaty soil, and is composed of a concentration of shattered stones in black soil. Some N–S ridging on the surface of the mound appears to be the result of relatively recent disturbance.
