In pasture, located on top of a low ridge, at the break of slope on the S side, with good views over the surrounding, gently undulating average to wet grassland. Slightly raised circular area (31m N–S; 31m E–W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 1.4m; int. H 0.2-0.4M at S, 0.65m at N; ext. H 1.1m at S, 0.85m at N). The bank is quite uniform in width and is notably narrow, with an almost vertical external slope. Immediately outside the bank at SE–W, there is a low terrace or berm-like feature (Wth 2-2.6m) defined on its outer edge by a slight scarp (H 0.2m). The bank is less substantial than the enclosing bank of other raths in this area, and is similar in form to many field banks in the area; it seems likely that it has been modified as a result of incorporation into later field boundaries. An irregular-shaped quarry pit (21m E–W; 16m N–S; D 1.4m) has been dug into the centre of the interior, leaving only a narrow perimeter of undisturbed interior space. There is a heap of stones in the base of the pit. The entire interior, including the quarry pit, has been planted with conifers, now mature. Field boundaries on an E−W axis abut the bank at E and W. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 April 2018 - MA030-012: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA030-012----. Located on a low rise, in an expanse of rough, wettish pasture, which has been partly reclaimed and drained. Overlooked c. 150m to the SE by higher ground on top of which another rath (MA030-013) is prominently sited. A stream/drain extend to E through the intervening low ground between the two raths. Raised oval area (30m E–W; 25m N–S) defined by a scarp (Wth slope c. 4m; ext. H 1.6m) with a slightly raised internal rim, and enclosed by an external fosse (Wth 2-2.5m; ext. D 0.2-0.3m). The fosse is evident as a shallow depression, but a short section (L 5m; ext. D 0.6m) at SE is deeper and more clearly defined. At E there is a poorly defined low area or gap (Wth c. 2.5-3m) which may be the original entrance. It opens onto a slight rise in the fosse that may be the remnants of a causeway. There is a rectangular raised area (c. 11m E–W; c. 10m N–S) in the E half of the interior, slightly off-centre to SE. At the E end of this is the ephemeral outline of a possible rectangular hut site (MA030-012001-). To E of this, the remnants of a field bank (Wth 0.6m; H 0.2m), on a N–S axis, extends across the E edge of the interior. Grass cover, with a few hawthorn trees on the perimeter at NW–N. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 April 2018 - MA030-012001: Hut site, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA030-012001-. In the E half of the interior of a rath (MA030-012----). This possible hut site (4.8m E–W; 4.5m N–S) is roughly square in plan, defined by a slight, sod-covered bank (Wth c. 1m; H 0.2-0.3m). The remains are low and poorly defined. It is located at the E end of a low, rectangular raised area or platform (c. 11m E–W; c. 10m N–S) which occupies the E half of the rath interior. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 April 2018 - MA030-013: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMA030-013----. In pasture, prominently sited at the SE end of a NW–SE ridge, with good views on all directions of the surrounding undulating average to wettish grassland. Overlooks another rath (MA030-012----) located on a low rise c. 150m to the NW. A stream/drain extends to E through the low ground intervening between the two raths. This bivallate rath consists of a substantially raised, circular area or platform (diam. c. 21m) defined by a high, pronounced scarp (Wth slope 3.7m; ext. H 2.4m), and enclosed by a well-defined fosse (Wth 4.7m) and external bank (Wth 5.8m; int. H 1.55m; ext. H 1m). The outer face of the external bank is steep and broadly sloping, merging with the ridge slope. The bank has suffered disturbance in parts: inner face at N–NE has been partly levelled, a section (L 5m) at S is markedly low and eroded, and the outer edge at SW–NW merges with the stony remnants of a later field bank (Wth c. 2m). The interior is level, except for a slight slope down from the centre towards a poorly-defined, low area in the scarp at E, which marks an entrance. This gap opens onto the remains of a causeway (Wth c. 4m) across the fosse, leading to the fall of ground at the SE end of the ridge, a natural routeway. There is a concentration of stones in the interior adjacent to the entrance, but it is largely concealed by overgrowth and its significance could not be determined. The ridge top location has been utilised to enhance the substantial appearance of the rath. The rath is largely engulfed in hawthorn, blackthorn and brambles. In pasture, located on a NW–SE ridge, at the break of slope on the NE side. Good views over the surrounding undulating, average grassland, especially to NE towards the banks of the River Moy. A circular enclosure, smaller in diameter then the average ringfort, is shown on the 1837 OS 6-inch map. At the location a low, gently domed rise (diam. c. 8-10m; H 0.5m) can be discerned. A NW–SE field boundary lies immediately to SW; a perpendicular field boundary shown to SE on the 1930 OS 6-inch map has been removed.
