H 1.5m) WSW-WNW that is largely reduced to an overgrown scarp, and an outer fosse that is best preserved SW-WNW where it is bordered by an external field bank, and at E (Wth of top 2.7m; Wth of base 1.6m; ext. D 0.4m) where it crosses the ridge but the fosse is replaced by a modern drain ESE-WSW. The original entrance (Wth of base 2.1m) and causeway (Wth of top 1.8m) are at ESE. Rath (ME015-066----) is c. 170m to the E. Archaeological testing (16E0667) by D. Delaney in the area to the NW and outside a 30m buffer zone produced no related material (excavations.ie 2016:206). Situated on a rise in an undulating landscape. This is a raised circular and slightly domed (H 0.8m) grass-covered area (diam. 27.5m NNW-SSE; 26m ENE-WSW) defined by an earthen bank that is best preserved (at WSW: Wth of base 6m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 2.9m) E-WSW and is planted with a hedge. There is an outer fosse that is well preserved (Wth of top 4.5-6m; ext. D 0.9-1.1m) E-S-NW. There are entrances at W and NNE but the latter (Wth of base 2.8m) with its causeway (Wth of top 1.3m; H 0.25m) is probably original. Rath (ME015-065----) is c. 170m to the W and rath (ME015-067----) is c. 150m to the S. Situated on a NW-SE ridge in an undulating landscape. This is a raised circular overgrown area (diam. 26.5m WNW-ESE) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (at WNW: Wth of base 7.5m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 3.8m) W-N that is largely reduced to an external scarp (at ESE: H 3.4m). It is surrounded by a fosse (Wth of top 6-7m; Wth of base 1-2m; ext. D 0.2m at E to 1.3m at W), with an outer field bank (at WSW: Wth of base 1.5m; ext. H 0.3m) SE-W-NNW. The original entrance (Wth of base 2.5m) and causeway (Wth of top 2.1m; H 0.4m) are at SE. A castle at Garclonne (41b) in Moylagh parish is not depicted on the Down Survey (1656-8) barony map of Fore but is on the parish map (http://downsurvey.tcd.ie/). According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) Richard Plunkett of Loughcrew owned almost 120 acres there in 1640 including ‘one castle in indifferent good repair’ and seven cabins (Simington 1940, 266). It is depicted amongst a cluster of buildings on the 1836 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as Green Castle. It is depicted as a shell (dims c. 8m N-S; c. 5m E-W) on the OS 25-inch map. Situated in a gently undulating landscape, there are no visible remains, and it is now occupied by a modern house. Archaeological testing (99E0732) by M. Byrne at the location ahead of the construction of the house produced no archaeological material (Byrne 1999; excavations.ie 1999:688). - Gortloney National School, school, 1840–1880, Regional interest, registry number 14311009, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=ME&regno=14311009. Detached T-plan single-storey former national school, built c.1860, comprising of six-bay side elevation with two-bay gabled projection to north. Now used as a garage workshop. Pitched slate roof with red brick chimneystack, cast-iron vents and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with vents and plaque to projecting gable. Timber sash windows and timber battened doors. Extension to rear. Cast-iron gate to front set in rubble stone boundary wall with ashlar copings to front.
