Located on a slight rise towards the bottom of a N-facing slope with the headwaters of a small N-S stream c. 80m to the W. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) is depicted only on the 1836 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘Fort’. This is a grass-covered circular area (diam. c. 36m N-S; 33m E-W) defined by a slight scarp (Wth 3.5m; H 0.7m). It has no visible fosse or recognizable entrance but it is bisected by a WNW-ESE field wall. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revision: 31 October 2018 - ME009-076: Enclosure - large enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CME009-076----. Located towards the bottom of the NE-facing slope of a hill in Patrickstown townland and overlooking a col with a small hill whose summit is c. 500m to the NE. This is a large oval, grass-covered area (diam. c. 70m NE-SW; c. 66m NW-SE) that slopes down to the SE (H c. 2m) from the centre and more severely to the NE (H c. 10m). It is defined by a broad grass and scrub-covered earthen bank (Wth of base 8.5-9m; int. H 0.7-1.4m; ext. H 0.9-1.5m) S-N-NE and an outer fosse (Wth of top 7-8m; ext. H 0.2m at SE to 0.6-0.8m generally). There are gaps in the bank at WNW (modern) and ESE but the original entrance is probably that (Wth of base c. 3.4m) at NNE with traces of a causeway (Wth c. 5.6m) in the fosse. A NE-SW field bank overlies the interior towards the perimeter at SE and the original bank is much reduced SE of this feature. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. This is a raised circular and grass-covered area (diam. 33m NW-SE; 30m NW-SE) that slopes down to the SE (H 1.4m). It is defined by an earthen bank (at SE: Wth of base 6.7m; int. H 0.4m; ext. 3.2m) with some bushes that is incorporated into a N-S field bank (at NW: Wth of base 6m; int. H 1.3m; ext. H 2m) with an outer stone-facing and an outer fosse (at NW: Wth of base 5m; ext. D 0.55m) SW-NW. The entrance (Wth of base 2.4m) is at E.
