Located towards the E end of an E-W drumlin ridge. A rectangular enclosure (ext. dims c. 50m ENE-WSW; c. 40m NW-SE) is outlined lightly with double lines on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as an ‘Ancient Burial Ground’. This is depicted as within a large oval enclosure (dims c. 140m NW-SE; c. 110-125m NE-SW). The central feature has been removed without trace, but the outer enclosure is defined generally by a hedge at the top edge of a scarp (at NW: Wth 1.6m; H 2m) W-NE where there is a field bank at the base of the scarp. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). Detached six-bay single-storey national school, built 1896, having full-width lower single-storey flat-roofed entrance block to rear (north) elevation, and single-storey addition to rear of this. Roughcast rendered walls, inscribed limestone name plaque reading 'Scoil Brighde na nEanaí Scoil Náisiúnta', render roundels to gables. Square-headed window openings with masonry sills throughout, having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to front elevation and to flat-roofed blocks. Fixed timber-framed windows and timber casement windows to gables. Square-headed door openings, each with timber battened door, to side elevations of entrance block. Detached three-bay two-storey former teacher's house, built c.1895, having gablet to entrance bay containing paired half-dormer windows, and with two-bay single-storey return to rear elevation. Now in use as private house. Pitched slate roof, with red brick gable end chimneystacks, and having monopitch slate roof to return. Roughcast rendered walls with painted quoins. Square-headed window openings, with replacement uPVC windows to ground floor front and to west gable, and four-over-four pane timber sliding sash windows to dormer floor at front and to east gable. Square-headed door opening with recent timber battened door and lean-to slate canopy on angled timber brackets. Set back from road, with rendered boundary walls and rendered piers.
