Situated on a small SE-NW spur in a low-lying position amongst drumlins, with a NE-SW stream immediately outside it to the W. This is a subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 48.5m NNW-SSE; c. 40m ENE-WSW) defined by the remains of an earthen bank ESE-W-N, and a fosse across the spur ESE-S which morphs into a berm S-W-N. There is an entrance through the bank (Wth of base 2m) and causeway (Wth of top 3.8m; H 1.3m) at SE. Archaeological testing (10E0208) immediately to the SE produced no related material (McGonigle 2010, 2012). Located at the S end of a short NW-SE drumlin ridge. A circular embanked enclosure with trees on the perimeter is depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’, and it is depicted as an arc of hachures (Chord c. 30m NE-SW) on the NW side of a NE-SW field bank on the 1907 edition. This NW segment was extant as a grass and scrub-covered platform in 1967 (diam. 26.5m NE-SW) defined by a scarp (at N: Wth 1.85m; H 1.3m). A farm track had been laid over the W quadrant by 2000 (OSAP). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
