Located just off the SE end of a NW-SE drumlin ridge on the S side. This is a raised circular and grass-covered area (diam. 40.5m ENE-WSW; 36.5m NNW-SSE) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth c. 3m; int. H c. 0.5m; ext. H c. 1.5-2m) and hedge that has external facing stones WSW-N. There are traces of an outer fosse that are best preserved (Wth of top 3m; Wth of base 1.3m; ext. D 1m) SE-S. The modern entrance (Wth 4m) and causeway (Wth of top 3.6m; H 0.8m) at SE may be on the site of the original. There is a local tradition of an underground passage that might be a souterrain (MO025-043002-) SW of the centre but there is no physical evidence of this. Corn mill complex consisting of three detached two-storey buildings forming three sides of courtyard, built c.1800, refurbished and converted to flax mill c.1880, on north bank of River Fane. Four-bay two-storey mill-related building to west of central yard having pitched corrugated-iron roof, snecked dressed stone walls with square-headed window openings and door opening and segmental carriage arch, all having red brick surrounds. Six-bay two-storey mill building forming north edge of central yard having corrugated-iron roof, roughly dressed stone walls, square-headed openings having red brick surrounds and some timber battened shutters. Adjoined to west building by round arch of stone and brick at eaves level. Round-arch opening to front and rear elevations to wheel-pit to east end. Some machinery remaining internally. Multiple-bay two-storey mill-related building to east range having remains of pitched slate roof, rubble stone walls and square-headed openings with red brick surrounds. Red brick segmental arch at river level to north and south gables, allowing river flow through east side of building. No evidence of machinery. Detached single-storey three-bay miller's house to north of complex, now ruinous. Steep increase in ground level to immediate rear (north) of complex. Single-arch stone railway bridge, built 1849, carrying embanked Dundalk to Enniskillen railway line over road. Now in use as footbridge as part of way-marked walking trail. Round arch having rusticated voussoirs and chamfered impost course. Rock-faced rusticated stone abutments having margined quoins. Brick soffit to arch. Cut-stone walls, chamfered string course to parapet with cut-stone copings. Part of parapet to south-east elevation missing.
