Located at the NE end of a NE-SW drumlin ridge. This rath is represented on McCrea’s Map of County Monaghan (1793) and on later OS 6-inch maps. It is an oval grass-covered area (dims c. 33m N-S; c. 25m E-W) that slopes down slightly to the E defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 3m; int. H 0.1m at N to c. 0.9m at S; ext. H 1.5 at E to c. 2-2.5m W-N) with an outer fosse (Wth of base c. 1.5m) NW-NE and SE-SW. The entrance (Wth of base 2.4m) and causeway (Wth of top 2.6m; H 1m) is at NNE. Scrub had been removed from the perimeter by 1995 (OSAP). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Revised by: Michael Moore Date of revision: 30 January 2018 - MO017-013: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CMO017-013----. Situated on a low NE-SW spur at the base of a SW-facing slope in a narrow NE-SW valley with hills to the NE and SW. A small embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 25m) is depicted only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’. No archaeological feature is visible at ground level in pasture although faint indications of a subrectangular enclosure defined by a single fosse feature can be seen on OSI aerial images (1995). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
