Situated in a relatively low-lying position in an undulating landscape with drumlins. Archaeological testing (12E0068) in advance of an improvement of the N2 Monaghan to Emyvale road identified a burnt mound which was designated Drumgeeny 2 (O’Hara 2012a, 7) and fully resolved (12E0208) subsequently (O’Hara 2012d). A few spreads of broken and burnt stones (dims 0.6m x 0.8m; T 0.08m to 3.5m x 2.5m; T 0.05m) overlay an oval pit (dims 1.9m x 0.8-1.15m; max. D 0.7m) filled with deposits of broken and burnt stone, and a rectangular pit (dims 2m x 1.15m; max. D 0.6m), filled with a silty clay with charcoal flecks, which cut the oval pit. The rectangular pit had probably been plank-lined as a plank was found in its fill and a sample of oak charcoal from its fill produced a C14 date of 3372 +- 30 BP (1746-1538 cal. BC).
