Located just off the crest of the NW-facing spine of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. An earthwork at this location in Lisnadarragh is represented on McCrea’s Map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 28.4m NNW-SSE; 26m ENE-WSW) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth of base 3-3.6m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.3m at S to 1.6m at N) with some bushes, that is incorporated into a stone-faced scarp and field bank (at ENE: H 1.5n) NNW-SE, and is reduced to a scarp (Wth 8m; H 3m) S-NW. There is a slightly raised rectangular platform (dims of top 8.2m N-S; 6.8m E-W; H 0.5m) inside the perimeter at N, which may be natural. An entrance gap (Wth of 1.3m) at NE might be the original entrance. It has become more overgrown since 1967 (Bing 2013). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated on a NW-SE spur on the S side of a drumlin. An earthwork at this location in Lisnadarragh is represented on McCrea’s Map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. ) that had become overgrown by 2000 (OSAP) defined by an earthen bank separated by a fosse from an outer earthen bank that survives SSW-NW and is incorporated into a field bank SE-SSW. There are traces of a third outer bank SW-NW. The entrance and causeway are at SE. There is a rectangular house-site defined by a low earth and stone bank inside the bank at S, and another one in the NW quadrant with an entrance at SE. The interior is bisected by a NW-SE field bank. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated on a slight rise in a col between drumlins to the NW and SE with slightly lower ground to the NE and SW. This was described in 1967 as a subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 25m N-S; 22m NE-SW) with some rock outcrop, which was defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.2-2.6m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.7-1m). There was no visible fosse, but the entrance (Wth of base 1.25m) was at NNW. There was a rectangular house site (int. dims 5m NW-SE; 5m NE-SW) defined by spreads of earth and stone (Wth 1.5m; H 0.7-0.8m) with entrance gaps at SE (Wth 1.6m) and NW (Wth 1.3m) inside the perimeter at NE. There was a circular depression (dims 7.2m N-S; 4.9m E-W; D 0.5m), probably an old quarry, inside the bank at SE. The monument was cut by a NW-SE field band towards the perimeter at SW, and the part NE of this was removed by a quarry between 1995 and 2000 (OSAP). Located on a rise in a slight NW-SE valley. It is recorded in the folk tradition (IFC, Schools’s MSS, 940, 41: https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes ) as a giant’s grave and while the name of the giant is not known, it does provide a sketch. This monument consists of a narrow gallery (L c. 4.5m; Wth 1.9m) aligned NE-SW and facing SW, but the back-stone is missing. It is defined by four or five side-stones flanked on either side by outer walling which extends 2m beyond the gallery to the SW. There is a marked decrease in the height of the orthostats from SW to NE. One roof-stone lies SE of the gallery. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
