Located on top of a N-S drumlin ridge. This rath is depicted on McCrea’s map of County Monaghan (1773b). This is a circular grass and rush-covered area (diam. 40.5m E-W; 40m N-S; int. diam. 35m N-S) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 7-8m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.8-1m) and remnants of an outer fosse that only survives partially at NW-N (Wth of top 4.2m; ext. D 0.9m) and S-SW (Wth of top 7.6m; ext. D 0.4m). There is a modern entrance (Wth 2.6m) at S but an entrance (Wth 1.7m) and causeway at NW is probably original. The rath is surrounded by an outer field bank (at N: Wth 1.4m; ext. H 0.3m) with stone-facing S-W-NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
