Located on a shelf towards the bottom of a NW-facing slope. It is not recorded on any map but it was described in 1942 (SMR file) as an oval level area with dimensions of ‘46 yds NW-SE by 37 yards NE-SW’ (c. 42m x c. 34m) defined by a scarp down to the interior E-S-W and an outer scarp elsewhere. There was no visible fosse or entrance but it was believed locally to be a burial ground, although this is unlikely. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated at the summit of, and towards the N end of a N-S drumlin ridge. This rath is depicted on McCrea’s map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is a raised, circular grass-covered area (diam. 46m E-W; 43.5m N-S) defined by a scarp (at S: Wth 2.9m; H 3m) with a wall and hedge on top NE-S-W that is reduced to a low, grass-covered scarp (at NW: H 0.4m) elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
