Situated in a col between drumlins, the summits of which are c. 220m to the SE and c. 600m to the NW, and it is also overlooking the S end of the triangular Spring Lough (dims c. 540m NNE-SSW; 275m NW-SE at SW) which is c. 150m to the NE. It is depicted as an embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) described as a ‘fort’ in gothic lettering only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map. No archaeological feature is visible at ground level in pasture. The rath (MO031-043----) is c. 200m to the SE. Located towards the bottom of the S-facing slope of a drumlin. A souterrain came to light in May 1963 and it was recorded by Ellen Prendergast of the National Museum of Ireland, but it could not be preserved. A subcircular chamber (int. dims 2.5m x 3m; H 2.5m) of rough corbelled walls had three drystone walled and lintelled passages radiating from it. At S an entrance (Wth 0.42-0.5m; H 0.55m) led to a passage (visible L 2m) and at NW an entrance (Wth 0.6m; H 0.65m) led to a passage (visible L 2m) but an entrance at N was completely blocked. Situated towards the top of the NE-facing slope of a drumlin. This is an overgrown circular area (diam. 27m E-W; 25m N-S) with rock outcrop that slopes down slightly to the S (H 0.6m), which is defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth of base 4.6-6m; int. H 0.4m at N to 1.2m at S; ext. H 0.8m at S to 1.6m at N) with internal and external stone facing. There is an entrance gap (Wth of base 1.4m) at NW which is probably original. The ringfort (MO031-041----) is c. 200m to the NW, and raths (MO031-044----) and (MO031-045----) are c. 200m to the S and c. 180m to the ESE respectively. Situated just off the crest of the S-facing slope of a small drumlin. This was described in 1966 as a grass and scrub-covered area (diam. 25m N-S) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (at N: Wth of base 4m; Wth of top 1.1m; int. H 1.15m; ext. H 1m) NW-NE that was reduced to an overgrown scarp (at S: H 1.9m) elsewhere. There was no visible fosse or entrance. Rath (MO031-043----) is c. 200m to the N, and rath (MO031-045----) is c. 180m to the NE. It had been removed by 1995 (OSI images). There are farm buildings just to the SE. Located on a high shelf and at the crest of a S-facing slope. It was described in 1966 as a completely overgrown area defined by an earthen bank (at N: Wth of base 4m; Wth of top 1m; int. H 1.15m; ext. H 1.9m) with no visible fosse. It has been removed since then, but it can be seen as a cropmark of an oval enclosure (dims c. 50m N-S; c. 35m E-W) defined by a single fosse feature and bisected by an ENE-WSW field bank on the OSI aerial images (1995). Rath (MO031-043----) and rath (MO031-044----) are c. 180m to the NW and SW respectively.
