Situated on low-lying poorly drained land with higher ground to the NE. Square shaped area (diam 38m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 2m), wide flat bottomed fosse (Wth 3m; ext. H 1m) with possible ramped entrance (Wth 3m) at E, with no evidence of an external bank. The site is not marked on the first two editions of the six inch maps which makes classification tentative. Its shape and location indicate that it is a moated site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011 - OF007-023: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2COF007-023----. Located on top of a natural low hillock in undulating countryside. Roughly circular area (diam 28m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 1.7m) with no evidence of an outer fosse or entrance feature. The interior of the site slopes from SE to NW following the natural slope of the low hillock. Natural bedrock protrudes from the surface of the interior in several places. Difficult to imagine site as a habitation site such as a ringfort due to protruding bedrock and lack of diagnostic features. Depicted on first edition of the OS 6-inch map as a possible landscape feature. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. No surface evidence remains of any archaeological site in area marked on OS 6-inch map. Natural hollow may show up on aerial photo as an enclosure (GSI N 328/9). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated on top of an E-W ridge in undulating countryside. Natural ridge which has been quarried on its N side with no evidence of any archaeological features visible. Probably destroyed after 1840 as it was marked on the 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map and not on the later editions. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Not visible at ground level. Site was levelled several years ago. Silage pit located on the site of the levelled enclosure which according to the landowner was a univallate ringfort. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
