This will include the repurposing of 3412 meters of existing former rail bed, 3131 meters along existing bog headlands / former high fields, and 473 meters along pre-existing machine access routes. The construction of car and / or bicycle parking facilities at a number of gateway locations along the proposed route and the provision of EV Charging spaces at the Gateway locations. This will include: 1 no. Type 2 Gateway, 2 no. Rest Points. The Type 2 Gateway (WH-02-01) will include the provision of a walker totem, modular pavilion feature, and upgrades to the entrance from the local road. Upgrade works to River Bridge (21-200). The site (Wth 1.05m; D 0.135m) is orientated SSE-NNW and composed of birch roundwoods (diam. 0.07-0.13m) in a parallel arrangement with some brushwood and twigs between the principal roundwoods. A single substructural birch roundwood is set at an oblique angle to the upper roundwoods. Toolmarks were recorded on several roundwoods. A piece of stone similar to the flags of SMR OF006-001001 rested on one of the roundwoods and the proximity of the sites suggests these two site are related. Not visible at ground level. Described by Halpin (1984) as a stone roadway and timber trackway found c. 1m deep in Bord na Mona Blackwater works in 1983, running between Bloomhill townland Co. Offaly and Ballynahownwood Co. Westmeath. He assigned a medieval date to the trackway. Excavated by Breen (1987, 32) who described the stone flagstone roadway as lying on a foundation of peat with a layer of brushwood underneath. Finds included Horseshoes of 13th-century type along with two leather shoe-fragments which were found above the stone roadway. According to local folklore this trackway may formed part of an old pilgrimage route running between the monastery of Clonmacnoise (OF005-027001-) and the old churchyard (WM035-003----) at Killomenaghan (Breen, Parkes & Bradshaw 1988, 332-3). The site (L 135m; Wth 0.95m; D 0.1m) is orientated ENE-WSW and consists of superstructure of longitudinal planks and roundwoods supported by roundwood and plank transverses. All recorded timbers were of oak (L 0.67; Wth 0.122-0.19; D 0.058-0.07). These radially split planks had v-shaped mortices cut into their ends (L 0.1m; Wth 0.05m; D0.07m). Another example is complete with its accompanying peg. Generally the condition of the wood is quite poor and the timber surfaces have been milled. The dispersed arrangement of timbers and the quantities of wood debris scattered around the site indicate that part of this structure has been removed by milling. The larger timber (Wth 0.39m; D 0.12m) is an outer tangential split that has disintegrated along the rays into three portions. There is no evidence for burning on the stump. This site (L 770m; Wth 3.1m; D 0.82m) is orientated NE-SW crossing the N half of Bloomhill Bog from Bloomhill island, Co. Offaly to Ballynahown wood Td. in Co. Westmeath (SMR WM035-017----). Portions of the site were excavated in 1983 and 1996 by Breen (E395) and by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (UCD) in 1992 (92E0176). Breen identified eight phases of construction close to the dryland at the S end and both Breen and the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (UCD) recorded three phases towards the centre of the bog. At the S end the earliest phase was of clay, gravel and stone probably laid down in the sixth century AD. This phase was seal by peat and replaced with a layer of clay, stones and large timbers radiocarbon dated to cal. AD 564-775 (GrN-14715). This was followed by further peat growth and over which a layer of timbers was laid that was also covered by peat. Above this there were three successive phases of construction consisting of clay, stone and gravel followed by brushwood and finally a layer of sods. After a further episode of peat growth a surface of large flagstones was laid which was also covered by peat that contained a number of horseshoes. The final phase of construction consisted of birch roundwoods and a number of oak timbers dendrochronologically dated to of AD 1226±9 or later (Q5413). The excavations towards the centre of the bog consisted of a deep bed of clay and gravels sealed by peat with brushwood over which was a surface of large flagstones. Following a further period of peat development a final phase of clay and gravel was laid down. The flagstone layer recorded in all cuttings may represent a single phase of construction along the line of the site. Bundles (L 15m min.; Wth 2.4m; D 0.3m) of longitudinal brushwood (diam. 0.024-0.042m) laid to one side of three obliquely-laid roundwoods (av. diam. 0.084m). A single peg, which was broken and crushed at one end, is located just below the roundwoods. Birch and hazel were recorded.

A townland is the smallest land division of Ireland, and the unit of a rural address; old registers such as the 1901 and 1911 censuses file it under its civil parish and barony.
