This site (L 592.33m; Wth 0.63m; D 0.1m) is orientated NW-SE and constructed of stone and wood. It was being destroyed at the time of recording and there was no clear surviving association between the different constructional elements. It appears to be predominantly comprised of longitudinally and transversely set planks, with flagstones and some associated wood chips. Within the NW part of the site it consists of single transversely laid planks at three sightings one of which was radial split and longitudinally laid planks at two sightings (L 1.52-2m max.; Wth 0.22m). The adjacent part of the site consists of a series of partially disturbed flag-stones with associated wood chips at some sightings. One flagstone is associated with 2 oak posts (diam. 0.1-0.14m), set 7.75m apart in a N-S direction. At another sighting, flagstones and a transversely laid split oak timber, are set 0.4m apart. Where less disturbed the site survives as a deposit of 4 closely set sandstone flagstones (Wth 1.18m; D 0.05m). The SE portion of the site, consists of single longitudinal planks at four sightings, one with associated wood chips, another with a flagstone. At two sightings are transverse planks with associated wood-chips. The original dimensions of the planks (L 1.52-2.45m min.; Wth 0.26-0.63m; D 0.02-0.03m min.) could not be determined because of machine damage. The flags are of white sandstone and had been fragmented by machinery making it impossible to ascertain the original size (D 0.02-0.05m). The trackway is set above well-humified Sphagnum with some pockets of Eriophorum associated with the wood chips and poorly humified Sphagnum associated with some of the stones. A single layer (Wth 0.98m; D 0.35m) of loosely placed pieces of brushwood (diam. 0.01-0.035m). Twigs were evident within the deposit which may have been associated with root layers above and below the site. A single worked end was recovered from within this material. Birch was the predominant species identified with some alder and ash. The site was located within well-humified Sphagnum peat, associated with some root material and Menyanthes. The site is located 4.5m S of SMR OF007-189----. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument. The original survey description was compiled by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin). The site (Wth 1.25m; D 0.28m) consists of compactly arranged pieces of brushwood orientated E-W. The pieces of brushwood (diam. 0.019-0.055m) have been placed between three roundwoods and two plank fragments to create a secure walking surface. One roundwood (diam. 0.18m), had been worked to a wedge point with a metal tool. The small portions of oak planks (Wth 0.09m; D 0.095m max.) were radially split. Of the remaining wood identified alder and oak were the predominant species with some willow twigs and alder root also present. The site is located within well-humified Sphagnum peat which contains equal amounts of ericaceous remains and Eriophorum. There was a stone recorded in the field immediately W of the site. The site (Wth 0.92m; D 0.28m) is orientated E-W and consists of a compact single layer of pieces of brushwood (diam. 0.01-0.042m) and a roundwood (diam. 0.065m), evident in opposing drain faces. These larger elements are associated with a lot of light twig material used to supplement the structure. Little evidence of woodworking was uncovered. Wood species include birch and alder. The site was constructed on well-humified Sphagnum peat and subsequently a thin lens of moderately to poorly humified Sphagnum inundated the site. This site has been radiocarbon dated to 1003-799 cal. BC (Beta-118034). The site is located 1m S of SMR OF007-188---- and just over 10m N of SMR OF007-189----. A single piece of roundwood (diam. 0.1m), with some associated oak fragments (Wth 0.18m; D 0.14m). The absence of woodworking may indicate that this site is non-archaeological. Birch and alder were the main species identified with some willow also present. The site is within the uppermost fen peat which consisted of well-humified mid-brown Sphagnum with Phragmites, which was inundated by raised bog which consisted of moderately humified Sphagnum.
