Large L-shaped souterrain (OF006-026002-) consisting of three chamber is located in the centre of the ringfort which was described and planned in 1860-61 (Foot 1860-61, 222-9; English 1972, 249). Large multi-chambered souterrain located in the centre of a large ringfort (OF006-029001-) situated on an E/W esker ridge in undulating countryside. Foot (1860-61, 222-9) describes three dry stone walled chambers constructed with large limestone blocks in a cyclopean fashion with flat lintelled roofs joined by creepways. Chamber 1: L 8.84m; Wth 1.67m; H 1.67m. Chamber 2: L 10m; Wth 1.82m; H 1.67m. Chamber 3: L 9.1m; Wth 1.82m; H 1.67m. Original entrance destroyed with access to souterrain from the open roof of chamber 1 (English 1972, 249). Situated at the end of an esker ridge running in an East - West direction in undulating countryside. Oval shaped platform(E-W diam. 33m; N-S diam. 26m) defined by a scarp (avg. H. 2m) which varies considerably in height from place to place with an outer fosse(Wth 2m) evident at East only with possible ramped entrance at N.E. This site is an example of the end of an esker being scarped at one end and the natural slope forming the platform on all other sides (English 1972, 249). Detached three-bay two-storey over basement country house, built c.1800, with Doric portico to front elevation and return and extensions to rear. Set within demesne amongst woods and farmland. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with limestone cornice to front elevation and limestone eaves course to side and rear elevations. Square-headed window openings with limestone sills and timber sash windows. Square-headed door opening with timber panelled double doors set within portico flanked by limestone pilasters and sidelights with decorative coloured glass. Door accessed up three limestone steps. Stable yard to south-west of house accessed through limestone rock-faced arched entrance surmounted by belfry. Two-storey ranges to stable yard with pedimented entrance-bay, hipped slate roofs, roughcast rendered walls and carriage arch openings. Walled garden to west of house accessed through arched opening in random coursed wall. Wrought-iron gates supported on limestone piers to front site. Cast-iron double gates supported by ashlar limestone piers flanked by pedestrian gates with railings terminating in similar piers to entrance.
