Situated on flat poorly drained land beside small stream with church and graveyard (OF043-023001-/002-) to SSE. Present remains consist of a heavily overgrown flat-topped mound (H 5m; Top diam. 6m) defined by a scarp with a berm around its base and traces of an external waterlogged fosse. No evidence of a bailey. Base of motte is cut at N by a small stream running E-W (Cunningham 1987, 131). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Situated on a natural rise of ground in upland area. Irregular shaped graveyard enclosed by stone wall with church located in N sector of graveyard (OF043-023001-). Rectangular shaped building (ext. dims. 12.8m N-S; 8.3m E-W; wall T 0.9m) constructed with roughly coursed sandstone rubble. Most of the S wall is destroyed with a single light window in the W gable and two partially destroyed windows in the N wall. There is a curious flat headed doorway at S end of the E gable giving access to a chamber which is built onto the E wall (5.1m N-S; wall T 0.6m) which was possibly a priests residence. There is a small window at the N end of the E wall. There is no evidence for a large E window. There is a linear earthwork or sunken way (Wth. 13m) located to the E of the church running along a NE-SW axis which is flanked on either side by an earthen bank. Possibly a medieval road (OF043-023002-) gives access to the church and graveyard which has no modern access road. The presence of punch dressed limestone jambs in the window suggests a late medieval date. Motte (OF043-020----) located approx. 400m to NW. Detached T-plan three-bay two-storey miller's house, built c.1860, with flanking bays. Located south of Fancroft Mills. Hipped slate roof with terracotta ridge tiles, rendered chimneystack and some cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with stucco quoins. Stucco string course separated ground from first floor. Square-headed window openings with timber sash windows, stone sills and stucco architrave surrounds. Wyatt windows to ground floor garden elevation. Decorative coloured glass to windows in projecting entrance bay. Square-headed door opening with stucco architrave surround and timber panelled and glazed door. L-plan outbuilding abutting house to west. Enclosed yard to east of house.
- Lowland House, farm house, 1800–1840, Regional interest, registry number 14943006, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=OF&regno=14943006. Detached three-bay two-storey farmhouse, built c.1820, with entrance porch added c.1880, and canted bay to south-west. Hipped slate roof with terracotta ridge tiles, rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with a limestone eaves course. Square-headed window openings with tooled limestone sills and timber sash windows. Some replacement timber casement window to rear and side elevations. Square-headed door opening to porch with stucco cornice. Ruined two-storey outbuildings to yard to north-east of house. Walled garden to north-east of house. House accessed through wrought-iron double gates supported by rendered piers and flanked by railings on a plinth wall.
