Depicted as a small mound on all editions of the OS 6-inch map, located 180m N of Kilconfert Church (OF010-021002-) and Castle (OF010-021001-). This possible burial mound or barrow is now levelled and is not visible at ground level. There are no surface remains visible, site was described in 1942 as a 'Fort' and located at the, 'base of [a] valley [that] is marshy, probably peaty land, with restricted view. Good pasture on slopes around. Probably surrounded by a fosse nearly filled, 8' [2.4m] wide. The bank of clay is in part[ly] denuded. It rises sharply 3' [0.9m] outside and up to 1' [0.45m] inside. A ring of old thorns grows on it. Centre level; fort circular. Int.[ernal] diam.[eter] 18' [5.5m]. The site is odd for a fort, but I do not think that it is a crannog or a plantation' (ITA Survey 1942, SMR File). In 1981 the monument was described as, 'This site has been levelled. There is nothing to indicate what type of site it was. It was situated on flat rushy land which is poorly drained' (SMR File 1981). Situated on a low natural rise in undulating countryside with church (OF10-021002-) to N. Present remains consist of grass covered wall footings of a destroyed castle which may represent a tower house from the sixteenth century. It is possible to estimate that the tower house had internal dimensions measuring approximately 10m E-W by 9m N-S. There may have been corner towers on the SW and NE corners. Remains of a rectangular shaped bawn (OF010-021003-) area (int. dims. 53m E-W; 80m N-S) to the S of the tower house. This area is defined by a partially destroyed L shaped bank. To the N of this enclosure there is a low bank which adjoins the graveyard wall and runs out in an E direction to form a roadway or laneway of unknown date and origin. Overall this site may have consisted of a tower house with bawn to the S and church with roadway to the N. There is also evidence of a possible enclosure in the adjoining field to the W of the tower house. In 1942 the site of the levelled castle (OF010-021001-) was described as, 'There is a flat-topped mound, irregular and a little eroded by digging, measuring about 23 [21m] x 27 [24m] yds. Sunk in it is a rect.[angular] enclosure about 11 [10m] x 7 [6m] yds. int.[ernal] dim., lined with stone wall grassed over, probably a keep. On S. of mound seem traces of another wall, and beyond it at a rather lower level an entrenched area rectangular and perhaps a baun [bawn] (OF010-021003-). The banks are however too obscure to plan without excavation, and it is not clear how much is old. Both church (OF010-021002-) and castle are approached from east by an avenue of very old thorns, and there is another such track on S side of castle' (ITA Survey 1942, SMR File). Poorly preserved remains of early medieval church (ext. dims c. 27m E-W,c. 7.5m N-S) built with large blocks of limestone. Only S wall stands to any height above it foundations and contains a small early medieval window with inner rounded arch and external pointed one. (ITA Survey 1942). In centre of graveyard, ruins of a long rectangular church (ext. dims 24m E-W; 7.5m N-S; wall T 1m) of which the S wall is the best preserved with tower house (OF010-021001-) nearby. Small triangular headed window visible on the centre of the S wall possibly of Romanesque date. The base of this window is stepped. The walls are constructed from large blocks of limestone which are coursed and interspersed with red sandstone blocks. No doorway or other architectural features visible. The S wall extends beyond the W end of the church. Possibly indicating the presence of a structure built onto the W end of the church. Well (c. 1.50m diam.) lined with drystone walling and cavered with large slab and enclosed by a concrete wall. Situated in low lying wet land. (ITA Survey 1942). Located on undulating land with bog to the SW and W and Kilclonfert Church (OF010-021002-) and castle (OF010-021002-) the N. Circular shaped well enclosed by stone built clochan with iron cross protruding from the top of the clochan along with other votive offerings including rosary beads etc. The well itself has three steps leading to its entrance, the water is very shallow with coins visible at the base of the well. The well is surrounded by a modern concrete wall. Pattern day is held on August the 15th (Davies 1942).
