On top of a low hillock in undulating countryside. Poorly preserved irregular shaped enclosure defined by an earth and stone bank reduced to a scarp in places. Impossible to examine due to its poor preservation and dense overgrowth, a lot of natural bedrock protrudes from surface of interior making habitation unsuitable. Does not resemble a ringfort however this may be due to poor state of site preservation. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Situated on a natural rise in undulating countryside. Irregular shaped area (diam E-W 22m; 60m N-S) enclosed by a low earth and stone bank (ext. H 1.5m) with a wide low bank of earth and stones running E-W across the enclosure dividing it into two equal parts. No definite evidence for any burials or church site although there are some loose stones scattered about. According to local information it is believed that there was a monastery here and that the site was later used as a childrens burial ground. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Not visible at ground level. However Rashinagh House has a large fireplace with wooden lintel over with large rectangular shaped chimney flue on northern gable which possibly belongs to the 17th century. Interior of house which is now in ruins was not accessible due to overgrowth and fallen masonry. The house is a single storey rectangular shaped house with modern fireplace and chimney at south gable with other modifications such as windows and door inserted. Rashinagh House appears to have been built on site of a MacCoghlan castle (Loeber 1988). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
