Late medieval rectangular church ( ext. dims. 18.6m E-W; 7.8m N-S; wall T 0.8m) built from roughly coursed shale with holy well (OF039-055002-) to the SE. All that survives is the W gable with destroyed window and bellcote, the W end of the N and S walls with wall footings surviving elsewhere. The only other architectural feature evident is the splay of a destroyed doorway at the W end of the S wall. Situated on a slight rise of ground W of a tributary of the Camcor River.Traditionally cited as an Early Christian foundation attributed to St Molua and to whom a nearby holy well (OF039-055002-) is dedicated. Present remains comprise a late medieval rectangular church (ext. dims. approx. 18.6m E-W x 7.8m N-S; wall T 0.8m) constructed of roughly coursed shale, standing within an irregularly shaped graveyard enclosed by a stone wall. The W gable with partial remains of a bellcote and a breach indicating the former presence of a window, together with the W ends of both the N and S walls, survive to full height. Elsewhere no more than wall-footings remain. Romanesque fragments of a tweflth century church window or doorway surround suggest that the upstanding building may date from the mid to late twelfth century. Late medieval limestone fragments of a possible window or doorway suggest that the church was modified in the late medieval period. The splay of a possible doorway or window is visible at the W end of the S wall. Described in 1556 in the Fiants of the Tudor Sovereigns as 'the rectory of Rosconroghe' (Feehan 1979, 140). In 1830, stone was taken from this church to construct the Roman Catholic church of Roscomroe, this church may contain architectural fragments and fabric of medieval date that are now obscured by the rendered walls of the 19th century church. Situated on a slight rise of ground W of a tributary of the Camcor River. Roughly rectangular shaped graveyard (approx. dims. 65m N-S x 50m E-W) enclosed by a sandstone wall (H appr. 1m; T 0.4m) of 19th century date with a coffin stand and stile incorporated into the centre of the W wall. A second stile can be seen near the SW angle of the graveyard, this stile gave access to the holy well (OF039-055002-) that is located in the adjoining field approx. 53m to the SE of the graveyard wall. Several Romanesque fragments (OF039-055004-) have been re-used as gravemarkers to the S of the church. There is also a rectangular sandstone slab with a circular hole at one end and a small hollow depression at the other end, it may have been associated with the Romanesque church at Roscomroe and is now used as a gravemarker immediately S of the S wall of the church located off centre to the E. A small circular conglomerate millstone (Diam. 0.48m; H 0.2m; T 0.08m) has also been re-used as a gravemarker to the S of the church. Situated in the field 53m SE of Roscomroe church (OF039-055) and graveyard (OF039-055001-). A natural spring well in a marshy hollow enclosed in recent years by a sandstone canopy which in turn is surrounded by a sandstone wall with gate opening. Locally dedicated to St Molua. Described by Feehan as 'the holy well in the graveyard is Saint Molua's well, and a pattern was held here on 4th August' (Feehan 1979, 140). A large block of sandstone traditionally believed to have been brought from the summit of Beagh Mountain by St Molua. It apparently once stood near St Molua's Well (OF039-055002-) (Feehan 1979, 140). No visible remains at ground level. No surface remains of any standing stone or any large boulder in the field near the holy well (OF039-055002-) that is described by Feehan as 'Near it [holy well] stood a large block of sandstone believed to have been brought by Saint Molua from the top of Beagh mountain' (Feehan 1979, 140). Three sections of a sandstone romanesque window have been re-used as gravemarkers in Roscomroe graveyard. All three consist of a jambstone with a roll moulding of twelfth century date. One of these jambstones has a double roll moulding divided by a concave channel and is situated 40cm S of the inner face of the N wall of the nave of the church approx. 14m to the E of the W gable. Two other fragments are located to the S of the S wall of the church, one of which is situated off centre to the E and the other is located further W in the graveyard. A fourth jchamfered jambstone is of limestone and is late medieval in date and probably belonged to a late medieval doorway or window. This fragment is stiated in the SW corner of the graveyard. There are several smaller architectural fragments of both sandstone and limestone scattered throughout the S quadrant of the graveyard. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Wet marshy area to the E of Roscomroe church (OF039-055) and graveyard (OF039-055001-) may be the remains of a possible millpond. No location or place name evidence for the location of its associated mill (OF039-055005-). Presence of conglomerate millstone in the graveyard now reused as a grave-marker may have been associated with the early mill, and supports the possible evidence for a mill near this church and graveyard. Described by Feehan as 'An uncertain tradition suggests that the monastery at Roscomroe survived until Cromwellian times; a place is pointed out north-east of the graveyard, the site of the monastery mill-pond in fact, where the fleeing abbot was taken and killed by Cromwellian soldiers, though not before he had thrown the monastic treasures into the muddy pond, where they may yet remain' (Feehan 1979, 140).
