Situated on top of high ground in undulating countryside. Described in 1988 by the local landowner as 'about forty years ago, he found a horseshoe-shaped enclosure with large stone slabs inside, underneath he found a large amount of red and white ashes' (ASI file 1988). This is the site of a lime kiln of post-1700 AD date. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). The well is now covered over by a large concrete slab for safety reasons and was impossible to examine as a result. No local tradition associated with well. Situated on flat low-lying land in undulating countryside. Known locally as the 'Friars Cross' this flat rectangular slab (L 1.2m; Wth 0.46m) has a simple ring headed cross decorated in relief with hollowed angles between the arms of the cross. No inscription visible on the graveslab. According to local tradition it marks the resting place of a Bishop Mac Coughlan who was killed in 1444.
