H 1m) defined by a scarp with possible entrance gap (Wth 2.5m) at E. A lot of stone and natural bedrock protrudes from surface of interior. Dense overgrowth makes examination difficult. Depicted as a circular grove of trees or as a tree-ring of post-1700 date on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map and not depicted as an antiquity. Not indicated on current ed. OS 6-inch map. The site (L 244.57m min.; Wth 2.3m; D 0.18m) orientated NNE-SSW. At seven sightings it appears as a small spread of gravel and sand (dims. 0.3-0.8m x 0.5-1.5m) although some are more scattered on the field surface. At the remaining sightings, the site is noted in the drain face up to 0.5m below the field surface. The main body of the site ranges in width (Wth 0.54-2.3m) and depth (D 0.03-0.18m) along its length. Gravel, sand and pebbles are the principle elements of the structure although their proportions vary along the length of the site. At some locations, these elements have been depressed and are mixed into the peat, thus forming less dense deposits of gravel or pebbles. At the most NE sighting, the site consists of a well-defined gravel deposit (Wth 0.54m; D 0.06m), formed of well-mixed, fine angular limestone pebbles and coarse sand. At this location, the site is in poorly humified Sphagnum and Eriophorum peat containing occasional ericaceous roots. At the most SW sighting, the gravel deposit is most extensive and a single piece of alder brushwood was included on the E side. Here, the site is located in very poorly humified Sphagnum peat with some Eriophorum and ericaceous root. This site is approximately parallel to and at the same level as SMR OF015-279----, although it is not certain if the sites are related. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument. The site (L 16.74m; D 0.4m) is orientated E-W and consists of a dispersed series of transverse brushwood in opposing drain faces. The brushwood (diam. 0.021-0.045m) is sparsely deposited and is laid up to three pieces deep. There are two longitudinal elements, one at either end of the site. A fragment of a tangentially split oak is present but no other woodworking was recorded. The material sits in well-humified Eriophorum peat. A rotten, tangentially split oak plank and an upright piece, located c. 5.8m to the W, may be displaced elements of the site. This site (L 282.32m; Wth 21.54m; D 0.15m min.), orientated NE-SW consists predominantly of a dispersed spread of longitudinal planks (Wth 0.11-0.41m; D 0.04-0.1m) evident at thirty sightings in the drain face. At a number of sightings, the site consists of 1-3 radially or tangentially split planks. Occasionally, however, more wood is incorporated into the site. At the most NE sighting, the structure appears at its most cohesive. Here, the site (Wth 3.1m; D 0.15m) is aligned longitudinally in the main concentration (Wth 1.4m). This consists of two planks set on a substructure of roundwoods, brushwood, woodchips and another plank. A roundwood and some brushwood on the E side of the main deposit, orientated E-W, extend the width of the site. One of the central planks has a mortice at on end. The underlying material consists of more irregular brushwood (diam. 0.02-0.05m), and a third plank on the W side of the site. A peg is set at a 45° angle 0.75m NW of the main body of material. Approximately 3m to the SE, two pieces of light brushwood are located on the field surface. The wood is in very poor condition. The site is located within poorly humified Sphagnum peat containing ericaceous root and Eriophorum. Occasional sand and quartz grains are noted in the peat and are likely to derive from the nearby dryland. At another sighting, three planks are located up to 15m apart in the drain face. One plank is associated with oak woodchips and fragments, bark, twigs and a peg. This plank produced a dendrochronological date of 953±9 BC or later (Q9293). The central plank of this group produced a dendrochronological date of 910±9 BC or later (Q9292). It sits in well-humified Sphagnum and Eriophorum peat with some ericaceous root and Menyanthes seeds. At the centre of the complex, two planks are located in the drain face. In the opposing drain face, smaller split timbers, woodchips and a possible peg are evident. The planks are set adjacent to one another in moderately humified Sphagnum and Eriophorum peat and are overlain by well-humified Sphagnum peat containing Eriophorum.
