It shows the arms of the St. Lawrence family, Howth, 20th Baron of Howth and wife Elizabeth (Plunket), the initials c. Traces of this watermill, associated with a 16th century Dower House have been enclosed in the NE corner of St Anne's Park. It appears slightly battered (L 6.3m, Wth 0.97m). Attached to the E end of this wall and running at a right angle to it is a second wall (H 0.45m). This appears to form one side of a millrace. Flat concrete roof to temple, with cut limestone architrave and frieze with remains of carved stone wreaths and swags, supported on carved Ionic columns on carved granite plinth wall with wrought-iron railings between columns. Cut limestone wall to interior of temple. Yellow brick, laid in Flemish bond, to walls to rear, cut limestone pilasters, recessed panels to south elevation of outer wall having round-headed niches and segmental brick pediments. Pedimented cut limestone doorcase to outer wall, with square-headed doorcase to inner wall with cut limestone surround. Segmental-headed niches to interior, some with pebble and shell decoration, some having animal bone and skulls incorporated. Stone slabs to floor. Supporting piers of rubble stone, with some fossilised timber. Pitched natural slate roof with terracotta ridge cresting, red brick chimneystack, overhanging eaves and decorative carved timber bargeboards and finials. Roughcast rendered walls, with granite platband to front and smooth render to porch. Square-headed window openings, with timber-framed windows, masonry sills and smooth render surrounds and moulded label-mouldings. Double-leaf French doors with leaded lights to balcony. Timber-framed windows with pivoting top-lights and masonry sill to canted-bay window. Detached U-plan single-storey stable block with attic accommodation, built 1885, now in use as artists' studios. Comprising seven-bay central range having gabled central breakfront to front (north-west) and rear (south-east) elevations, flanked by seven- and eight-bay projecting blocks, that to south having recent glazed extension. Natural slate roof, hipped to south corner, having terracotta ridge tiles and finials, decorative red brick chimneystacks having ornamented clay pots, cast-iron rainwater goods, carved timber bargeboards, moulded brick eaves course and gabled half dormer windows. Recent rooflights and dormer windows to south-west elevation. Domed cupola to centre, with fish-scale tiles, barley sugar columns, and weather vane finial.
