On rock outcrop in a low-lying landscape. Oval grass-covered area (dims 41m N-S; 28m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 3m; H 0.2-0.5m) W-N-SE and a scarp (H 0.8m) elsewhere, with an outer bank (Wth 3.6m; H 0.3-0.4m) separated from the inner by a berm (Wth 1.7m) NNE-SE. There is no identifiable original entrance, and much of the interior has been quarried. Archaeological monitoring (03E0914) of road-widening works, c. 140m to the S failed to produce any related archaeological material (Rooney 2006). There is a gap (Wth 11m) in the perimeter at E and the monument is bisected by a NNW-SSE field bank and ditches. Rath (RO028-096----) is c. 30m to the E. H 0.7m at E to 1.5m at S) which is represented by a scarp down to the interior (H 0.4m) NNW-NNE, and a fosse (Wth of top 9.5m; Wth of base 5.6m; D 0.4m) W-NNW. At the bottom of a S-facing slope, and at the N edge of the basin of rectangular Ardakillin Lough (dims c. 500m E-W; c. 350m N-S) which is c. 100m to the S. The lake was much larger in the 19th century (dims c. 1.8km NE-SW; c. 350m NW-SE at NE to c. 600m NW-SE at SW), extending much further to the NE (1837 OS 6-inch map). Crescent-shaped grass-covered and flat-topped earth and stone mound (dims of base 19.4m NE-SW; 11m NW-SE; dims of top 7.2m NW-SE; 6.5m NE-SW; H 1-1.5m) which was probably circular but a large quarry (diam. c. 11m) had been dug at NW.
