On a level landscape on the N bank of the SE-NW River Lung with the river immediately to the SW. Circular grass-covered platform (diam. 31m NE-SW; 29.5m NW-SE) defined by a scarp (H 0.6-1.2m), with traces of a fosse at SE (Wth of base 5.5m; D 0.1m) and NW (Wth of base 6.5m; D 0.3m). On a gentle S-facing slope. Circular grass and reed-covered area (diam. 32m NE-SW; 28.7m NW-SE) defined by an overgrown and gapped earthen bank (Wth 2-2.6m; int. H 0.3-0.8m; ext. H 0.4-0.7m) which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.2m) SSW-NW, with a fosse (Wth of top 3.8m; D 0.1m) SSW-SW. There is an entrance (Wth 8.3m) at SSE. Rath (RO008-041----) is c. 100m to the SW. Located on a flat, low-lying landscape. Archaeological testing during 2009 on the route of the N5 Ballaghadereen bypass identified a deposit of burnt mound material (dims. c. 7m x 6m; T 0.3m) with two pits (dims. 2m x 1.6m: 2m x 0.6m) nearby. It was set aside for resolution as Banada 1(Doyle 2010a, 11; 2012b). Half the burnt mound was excavated revealing two troughs. One (diam. 1.8m; D 0.7m) had straight sides and a flat base with some timbers, but the sides were of wattle and pegs were found in situ in the floor. The other trough was oval (dims. 3.3m x 1.78m; D 0.48m), also with some timber which produced a C14 date of 2009-1771 cal. BC. (Kyle and Delaney 2011b; Kyle 2013b) Compiled by: Michael Moore. Situated on the S side of a very slight E-W ridge. It is visible now as a D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 30m N-S; 19m E-W) defined by a slight scarp (Wth 1.3-2m; H 0.1-0.2m) SSE-NW that is separated by a berm (at S: Wth 5m) from a second scarp (at S: Wth 5.7m; H 0.6m) that is only clearly visible at S. The enclosure is truncated by a N-S field bank at E and an E-W road bank at N, but there is no evidence of the enclosure E of the field bank.
