Visible as a faint feature on aerial photographs (GSIAP: M 596-7) and situated on an undulating landscape. Oval grass-covered area (dims 54m NE-SW; 38m NW-SE) defined by a slight scarp. It is known locally to have been a fort with a lot of stone which was removed in the early 1980s and it is now overlain by a NW-SE field boundary. Cashel (RO047-042----) is c. 190m to the WNW. On a gentle S-facing slope. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims. 37.5m ENE-WSW; 34m NNW-SSE) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 5.5-6.5m; int. H 0.45-0.65m; ext. H 1.2-1.4m) and an outer flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 6-7m; Wth of base 2-3m; D 0.3-0.5m), which does not survive N-SE. A stone-lined entrance (Wth 2.2m) and causeway (Wth 4.5m) are at S. Grass-covered field walls approach the site from WSW, WNW, NNE and E while a more substantial grass-covered field wall crosses the site NE-SW. There are lazy-beds relating to this wall in the interior, and burials (RO047-057002-) have been found there (NMI topographical file). Rectangular grass-covered stoney area (dims 9.3m E-W; 6.2m N-S; H 0.2m) defined by a slight fosse (Wth 1-1.5m) and outer bank (Wth 1m; H 0.1m) at E and W, and by a berm (Wth 1.2m) and the edge of the ridge at N and S. On the summit of a WNW-ESE esker ridge. Grass-covered circular stoney platform (diam. of top 10.8m E-W; H 0.3-0.8m) with a few spaced kerbstones laid circumferentially and a slight outer fosse (Wth of base 1m; D 0.1m) which is reduced to a berm (Wth 1m) at N, at the edge of the ridge. A conical cairn (diam. 3.7-4m; surviving H 0.8m) with a flush outer face is at the centre of the platform, but the top of the cairn is missing. This cairn, or the mound, might be the feature that was disturbed in the 1950s (RO047-088----) when 'a jar with bones' was discovered (NMI file). It was disturbed by quarrying more recently and the S part of the platform to the edge of the central cairn has been removed. The possible barrow (RO047-058016-) is 8m to the W. On low-lying ground on either bank of the NE-SW canalised Ballyglass stream. A WNW-ESE esker ridge on the W side of the stream morphs into a broader NW-SE ridge on the E side. An area of about 67 acres (c. 27 ha) as recorded on aerial photographs (CUCAP: BDO 31, 32) during the 1970s in the vicinity of Milltown castle (RO047-058001-) is now reduced to c. 15 ha through land reclamation in Milltown, including the removal of enclosure (RO047-058002-). The fields are defined by grass-covered stoney banks (Wth c. 2-3.5m; H c. 0.5m) and they are fairly large and irregular (dims c. 100m x c. 50m) with some smaller rectangular paddocks (dims c. 20, x c. 10m) amongst them. These increase in number with proximity to the castle, but the relationship with the castle cannot be established. Almost all the fields have traces of lazy-bed cultivation, and a road (RO047-058031-) (L c. 400m; Wth 2.7-3m) defined by earthen banks runs N-S through Bredagh, terminating at is S end close to the castle. There are three house sites (RO047-058028-; RO047-058029-; RO047-058030-) on the N side of an E-W ridge in Cooldooragh. In a low-lying landscape on the NW bank of the NE-SW canalised section of Blallyglass stream. A road (L c. 400m; Wth 2.7-3m) defined by earthen banks runs N-S through Bredagh, rising over a prominent WNW-ESE esker, although it does not survive at this point, and terminating at its S end close to the castle (RO047-058001-). It was re-cut as a drain over much of its length at the N end. On marshy, low-lying ground. Rectangular grass-covered area (dims 69m WNW-ESE; 65.5m NNE-SSW) defined by interrupted earthen banks (Wth 4-4.5m; int. H 0.5-0.75m; ext. H 0.9m) and outer flat-bottomed moats (Wth of top 8.2m; Wth of base 5-5.5m; D 0.85-0.95m). There are slight outer banks (Wth 2-2.6m; ext. H 0.25m), probably the result of a re-cut of the moats for drains which enter the moats at the NW and SW corners and exit at the SW and SE corners into a small N-S stream or drain.
