On a gentle S-facing slope. This is an area of about 7.5 acres (c. 3 ha) containing small fields defined by drystone walls which are still upright and functional on aerial photograph (CUCAP: APH 48) and the fields are mapped on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. There are no dwellings present and the fields are irregularly shaped (dims c. 20-30m x c. 40-50m). There is no evidence of lazy-beds in the photograph but the fields are likely to be 18th or 19th century in date. This area is now reclaimed pasture and no features remain to be seen. Marked only on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure, and situated on a rise in a gently undulating landscape. This is a subcircular grass-covered platform (dims 34.4m NNE-SSW; 27.7m WNW-ESE) defined by an earth and stone scrub-covered bank (Wth 2.4-3m; H 0.3-0.6m) which is best preserved S-NW but reduced to a scarp elsewhere. There is slight evidence of an ancient stone wall on top of this scarp, but a field wall obscures the perimeter NW-E-S. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance. On a gentle SW-facing slope in an area of good pasture. An area of about 20 acres (c. 8 ha) containing irregularly subrectangular fields of c. 0.5 ha defined by drystone walls is visible on aerial photograph (CUCAP: APH 47). These walls pre-date the modern strip system which overlies it, but they are also marked on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. There is no evidence of settlement or of lazy-bed cultivation. The area has now been almost completely reclaimed and the surviving area covers about 4 acres (c. 1.5 ha). It is adjacent to and part of the field system (RO047-054002-) which is c. 200m to the E and field system (RO047-051----) which is c. 300m to the N. On a rise in undulating landscape. Rectangular grass and scrub-covered area (int. dims 15.4m NE-SW; 13.7m NW-SE) defined by a collapsed drystone wall with some bushes, best preserved on the NE side with facing-stones (original Wth 0.9m; surviving H 0.65m). Now sitting in the front garden of a house, and recorded by Gary Dempsey. A cylindrical stone (max. diam. 0.5m; H 0.29m) has a basin on top (diam. c. 0.3m), but the sides have been decorated with a number of horizontal mouldings (diam. of base c. 0.4m). The stone was recovered from a ditch in Ardsallagh Beg, just outside Roscommon town c. 2000. It may have been made in the style of the capitals of Roscommon Abbey (ME039-055001-), c. 700m to the WNW, although at twice the scale, and it could have been created by the inmates of the workhouse, just to the W of its findspot.
