Inside the perimeter of a rath (RO015-051002-) at the SW is a sandstone upright (dims 0.45m x. 0.5m; H 1.05m) which has a weathered ogham inscription on one angle. It has been read as: CUNOVATO (Macalister 1914, 139; Hayward 1955, 211) or CUVEATA (Beirne 2000, 25), but these readings cannot be confirmed due to the extent of the weathering. A second (uninscribed) standing stone (RO015-051003-) is 1.5m to the S inside the rath and in 1985 a second ogham stone (RO015-051004-) was discovered in the bank which became dislodged and is now lying on the ground outside the rath. This is a National Monument in state ownership: No. 650 This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. On a gentle SW-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area with mature deciduous trees (diam. 55m E-W; 54m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.9-5.65m; int. H 0.4m at N to 1.4m at SE; ext. H 1.6-1.7m) NW-N-SE, reduced to a scarp (H 0.4m at S) elsewhere. There is a fosse (Wth of top 8.8m; Wth of base 4-4.8m; D 0.2-0.55m) W-N, but there is no visible entrance. The perimeter is truncated slightly by a NW-SE field wall at SW, and the standing stones (RO015-051001-; RO015-051003-) are inside the perimeter at SW, the first with an ogham inscription. In 1985 a second ogham stone (RO015-051004-) was discovered in the bank that became dislodged and is now lying on top of the bank at SW (SMR file). This is a National Monument in state ownership: No. 650 Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 14 November, 2012 - RO015-051003: Standing stone, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CRO015-051003-. Inside the perimeter of rath (RO015-051002-) at SW, and probably not in an original location. Limestone upright (dims 0.6m x. 0.25m; 1.05m) aligned ENE-WSW. The ogham stone (RO015-051001-) is 1.5m to the N and the possible standing stone (RO015-051004-) is c. 5m to the SW. This is a National Monument in state ownership: No. 650 Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010 - RO015-051004: Ogham stone, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CRO015-051004-. In 1985 while cleaning scrub this second ogham stone at the site was discovered protruding from the bank of the rath (RO015-051002-), and subsequently became dislodged. It is a sandstone monolith (L 1.9m; Wth 0.55m; T 0.35m). The right-hand angle was visible in 1985 and the inscription ran unusually up this angle. It was read at the time by F. Moore as: RAVASA KOI MAQQI DO....U, but none of the left-hand angle could be read (SMR file). The stone is now lying on the ground outside the rath at the SW. Ogham stone (RO015-051001-) and standing stone (RO015-051003-) are c. 5m to the NE, inside the rath. This is a National Monument in state ownership: No. 650 This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in italic lettering as 'Inscribed Stone'. It is situated on the N-facing slope of a knoll. Described as a headstone with an illegible inscription which may have been in French (OS Name Books). It is not visible in an area of grass-covered quarries, and its precise location is not known. Archaeological testing (21E0180) by M. Fitzpatrick of an extensive area of about 4 ha (c. 10 acres) around this feature produced no archaeological material and no evidence of this stone, which he suggests might be the original location of any of the ogham stones now at the rath (RO015-161002-) c. 600m to the W (excavations.ie 2021: 056). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
