Roscommon was built in 1978 on the site of the older one, of which there is no trace. This is a grass-covered D-shaped area (dims c. 85m WNW-ESE; c. 50m NNE-WSW) defined by the river SE-W-NE and by a curved earthen bank (Wth 6m; int. H 0.5-0.6m; ext. H 0.65-1.25m) NE-SE, with a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 9.4m; Wth of base 3m; D 0.35m) E-SE. There is an entrance (Wth 2.6m) through the bank at SE. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 59.4m N-S) with a few trees defined by a rounded fosse (Wth of top 6.4-7.7m; Wth of base 2-3m; int. D 0.8-1.5m; ext. D 1.2-1.8m), and an outer bank (Wth 4.2-6.2m; ext. H 0.3-1.7m) WSW-N-SSE, the river or the slope having removed the bank elsewhere (max. ext. diam. 79m N-S). There is an entrance (Wth 5.4m) and a modern causeway (Wth 2.6m; H 0.45m) of limestone blocks at N. There are traces of a second outer fosse (Wth of base 3.4m; D 0.3m) and external bank (Wth 3.3m; ext. H 0.25m) NE-ENE. Tooled limestone door surround and replacement timber panelled door. L-plan outbuildings to rear yard built 1861. Hipped and pitched slate roofs with limestone chimneystacks. Cut limestone walls with '1861' date plaque to keystone over doorway. Segmental-headed carriage arch openings with tooled limestone surrounds. Square-headed window and door openings with tooled limestone surrounds. Walled garden to northeast of house with one wall removed. Two-stage corner tower to walled garden. Ashlar gate piers to main entrance with acorn finials flanked by sweeping walls and terminating in ashlar piers.
