Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and situated on a rise in an undulating landscape at the N angle of a large rectangular field. Oval round-topped and grass-covered mound (dims of base 7m N-S; 5.5m E-W; H 0.9m at N to 1.1m at S) of earth and stone with intermittently visible kerbstones at its base. Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on top of a broad drumlin. Traditionally regarded as two serpents turned to stone by St Patrick (O'Flanagan 1931, vol. 1, 112). Two large red conglomerate stones are incorporated side by side on the SW side of an overgrown NW-SE field bank. On a low spur extending S from a low drumlin. Circular grass-covered area with rock outcrop (int. diam. 30m E-W; 28m N-S) defined by the outer facing stones (dims c. 0.8m x. c. 0.4m; T c. 0.4m) of a wall, which survives best (H c. 1m) E-S. The interior is largely occupied by rock outcrop which has a rectangular quarry (dims 1.4m x 1.1m; D 0.8m) cut into it at E. There is no visible entrance. St Nuadha of Armagh and Lough Uamha (of the cave) was a bishop and hermit who became the abbot of Armagh but returned to his own monastery of Dhisirt Nuadhain to die in 812 as a reformer of the céile Dé (Ó Riain 2011, 517). Estersnow became a parish church which is listed as Disertmyda in the ecclesiastical taxation of Elphin in 1302-06 (Cal. doc. Ire. vol. 5, 224), and referred to as Ath Dhisirt Nuadhain in 1330 (AFM vol. 3, 547). It was impropriate to Holy Trinity abbey (RO006-038001-) in the sixteenth century (Clyne 2010, 78, 91). The church is described as a ruin in the 1650s with only the walls standing (Simington 1949, 145). Thereafter it became a Church of Ireland parish church which was described as ‘very plain’ (Lewis 1837, 1, 394) but it was abandoned by 1911 (OS 6-inch map). The church is situated in a low-lying landscape with rock outcrop. The ruined rectangular 18th-century structure (int. dims 15.93m E-W; 6.72m N-S) survivies complete (H c. 5m) with masonry walls (Wth 0.8m) which have two large round-headed windows in the N wall, one in the S, a larger round-headed window in the E gable and a doorway and bell-cote in the W gable. There is no evidence of an older structure within the rectangular graveyard (RO010-040002-) (dims 55m N-S; 51m E-W) defined by masonry walls, which is within a large ecclesiastical enclosure (RO010-040003-) (diam. c. 200m) defined by a scarp (H up to 1.5m) NE-S-SW. Tobernoone well (RO010-040005-) was venerated in the 1830s according to John O'Donovan (O'Flanagan 1931 vol. 1, 113-4), but it does not survive. Souterrain (RO010-040004-) is just SE of the graveyard, and souterrain (RO010-040006-) is on the N bank of an E-W stream which runs through the S part of the enclosure. The entrance (Wth 0.7m; H 0.75m) in a rock face leads to a rock-cut passage (Wth 1.15m; H 1.15m; L 5m) roofed with limestone slabs which runs N until it is blocked at a point where it turns NW. On a gentle SE-facing slope bordered by a stream and Estersnow church (RO010-040001-) at S and tower house (RO010-010001-) to the NW. It is visible as a complex of fields, covering c. 15 ha on aerial photographs (CUCAP: AVJ 38-40; BDV 1-3; BDU 100-101). A hollow way (RO010-041003-) (L c. 100m; Wth c. 10m) can be seen running N from the ecclesiastical enclosure (RO010-040003-). Land improvement has left remains only to the NE and E of the church and S of the NE-SW public road. These consist of five conjoined rectangular fields (dims. 8m x 20m to 50m x 100m) defined by grass-covered stone spreads (Wth 2-4m) and low scarps (H 0.3m). Archaeological testing c. 220m N of the church failed to produce any archaeological features. Fulachtai fia (RO010-041004-) survive c. 180m NNW of the church.
