It is not visible at ground level in pasture adjacent to a farm complex but it was probably a cashel. The cashel (RO050-005----) is c. 130m to the ESE. This is a D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 35.6m NW-SE; c. 20m NE-SW) defined by a grass-covered stone spread (Wth c. 3m) WNW-N-SE, with facing-stones visible (original Wth 1.7m) NNE-ENE. It is bisected by a WNW-ESE field wall and does not survive visibly SW of this. There is no identifiable original entrance or internal features. The ringfort (RO051-004----) is c. 130m to the W. Archaeological testing (09E0530) c. 40m to the NE produced no related archaeological material (Wilkinson 2012). There is no identifiable original entrance, but the perimeter is overlain by a field wall everywhere and field stones have been added at NNW and NE, on either side of a modern entrance at N. The foundations of a rectangular house (RO050-006003-) (ext. dims at least 5.2m E-W; 4.6m N-S), locally regarded as a children's burial ground (RO050-006002-), are against the inner edge of the perimeter at SSW. Oval grass-covered area (dims 34.6m NNE-SSW; 26.8m WNW-ESE) defined by a stone spread SSE-NNW, reduced to a stoney scarp elsewhere. A drystone wall is built on the perimeter SSE-W-ENE, forming the townland boundary with Lugboy N-NE, and extends outside the scarp elsewhere ENE-SSE, creating a rectangular enclosure (dims 34m NNE-SW; c. 34m WNW-ESE). There are small cairns and grave-markers in the interior, but there is no evidence of a church (RO050-007002-), which John O'Donovan writing in the 1830s suggested was known locally as Cill Fhiacláin or Cill Dhiacláin (O'Flanagan 1931, vol. 1, 24). However, a church at Killeglan was recorded in the 1650s (Simington 1949, 106). This was probably a Keogh castle. Shane McKeogh was a tenant of the earl of Clanrickard at Killeglan in 1617 (Moore, 1978, 60). A castle at Killeglin is marked downstream from the watermill (RO050-033----) on the Strafford map of c. 1636 (Simington 1949, Athlone (146)). Situated at the E end of a low WNW-ESE ridge in a low-lying landscape c. 80m W of the NE-SW Killeglan River above the point where the stream turns W. Two fragments of wall (T 0.6m; max. H 4m) are on the N and E sides of a rectangular structure (dims at least 8.5m NNE-SSW; at least 3m WNW-ESE) with the embrasure of a window on the E wall. The castle is just outside the S end of the W wall of a bawn (RO050-008002-), which is a grass-covered area (dims c. 30m WNW-ESE; 24m NNE-SSW) defined by sections of masonry wall at the N (L 6m; H 0.3m) and W sides while the E and S sides formed by steep natural scarps.
