On a slight N-facing slope. About 15 grass-covered pits (dims c. 10-15m x. c. 4m; D c. 0.5m) generally aligned E-W form two rows c. 50m apart, covering an area of c. 6 ha (c. 16 acres). Archaeological testing (02E1222) over the E extremity of the area failed to recover any related material (Read 2004e). Preliminary testing (15E0588) of pit features suggests the pits tested are non- archaeological and are likely to be of geological origin. One unrelated isolated pit (diam. 0.75m; D 0.10m) was identified (O’Connell, 2016). This testing has been carried out on behalf of Roscommon County Council, as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment for the N5 Ballaghderreen - Scramogue road development. First identified in an unpublished archaeological LiDAR report (Davis, 2015) commissioned by Roscommon County Council as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment for the N5 Ballaghaderreen - Scramoge road development. It is situated in rough pasture on a slight S-facing slope. The LiDAR image clearly shows an area of about 2.5 ha (c. 6 acres) divided into small rectangular enclosures (dims c. 30m x. c. 40m) by banks and some ditches. No regular pattern of banks can be identified, but some ditch features (Wth of top 3m; D 0.25m) of what is probably a post-medieval field system can be confirmed through ground inspection. First identified in an unpublished archaeological LiDAR report (Davis, 2015) commissioned by Roscommon County Council as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment for the N5 Ballaghaderreen - Scramoge road development. It is situated in meadow grass on a fairly level landscape. This is a slight, oval rise (dims c. 20m N-S; c. 16m E-W; H c. 0.45m). Marked only on the 1927 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is named as 'Crockaunagat', and situated on a rise at the bottom of a slight E-W valley at the N foot of Rathcroghan plateau. Described as an artificial mound or carn (OS Name Books). An arc (C 12m) of earthen bank (Wth 3.3m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.1m) with some bushes survives SW-NW. There is no visible fosse but it is likely to be the last remnant of a rath. Pits are visible on aerial photograph (ACAP: V206/ 60, 59, 44) situated on a level landscape. No feature is visible at ground level in pasture, although c. 15-20 small pits aligned E-W can be seen as features in a Lidar image (Davis 2015, 77, No. 33:3) in an area of about 15 acres (c. 6 ha.). Located at the base of the N-facing slope of Rathcroghan, and c. 70m E of the line of the road (RO022-056002-). Archaeological testing (09E0569) of a large field (dims c. 400m N-S; c. 100-150m E-W) produced evidence of a keyhole-shaped kiln consisting of a stone-lined bowl (ext. diam. 1.4m) with a flue (L 1.4m; Wth 0.35m) extending to the W.
