Subcircular grass and scrub-covered cairn (dims 22.3m N-S; 17.2m E-W; H 1.5-2.1m) with a quarried upper surface (dims 13.7m E-W; 13.1m N-S; D 0.2-0.5m). Visible as a feature on aerial photograph (GSIAP: M 652) around the S end of the NW-SE ridge of Fairymount Hill. Oval area (dims c. 180m N-S; c. 90m E-W) defined by a grass-covered stone spread (Wth 1.8-3.2m; int. H 0.1-0.2m; ext. H 0.5-1.4m) S-NW and NE-E (Wth 2m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.9m), but it is replaced by a wall (Wth 0.9m; int. H 0.1m) on the outer edge of a rock outcrop face (H 0.45m) N-NE. It has been removed by a water tank NW-N and by a quarry E-S. There is no visible entrance, but old field walls visible as grass-covered stone spreads (Wth 0.8m; H 0.2m) are attached to the perimeter at E and SW. Although the name suggests the presence of a mound (RO014-078002-) there are no internal features visible and there is no record of one. Visible on Digital Globe aerial imagery as a circular area (max. diam. c. 52m) defined by the cropmark of a fosse (Wth c. 2-4m). A gap at SE (Wth c. 6m) may be the location of an original entrance. A subrectangular linear depression (L c. 40m WNW-ESE; max. Wth c. 12m) running WNW from the W sector of the enclosure may be the result of quarrying. - Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart, church/chapel, 1870–1880, Regional interest, registry number 31914003, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=RO&regno=31914003. Detached single-cell Roman Catholic Gothic Revival church, built in 1876, with four-bay nave, sacristy to north-facing side elevation and apse to chancel. Central stepped buttress to gable-fronted west front leading up to bellcote. Pitched slate roof with bellcote over entrance bay, ashlar chimneystack to sacristy and cast-iron rainwater goods supported by limestone corbelled eaves course. Snecked rock-faced limestone walls with limestone lateral buttresses. Buttresses are linked to stone-roofed lean-to confessionals. Pointed-arched window openings with tooled limestone surrounds and stained glass. Pointed-arched door openings flank central buttress to front elevation with tooled chamfered limestone surrounds and timber battened doors. Nave terminated in apse with original high altar and communion rails. Timber gallery supported on uprights to west with replacement ceiling to nave. Located on quiet roadside with modernised parochial house to west.
