In pasture, situated on level ground close to the W bank of a stream. Raised circular area (diam. c. 16m) enclosed by a much degraded, low earthen bank (Wth. c. 3m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 1.1m) which may have been faced with stone. A field fence, on a E-W axis, cuts the S edge of the rath. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 January 2011 - SL018-018: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL018-018----. Situated on a low rise in undulating pasture. Depicted on both editions of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. 20-25m). It appears to comprise a raised circular area enclosed by a bank, however, dense overgrowth rendered detailed inspection impossible. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 January 2011 - SL018-022: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL018-022----. Situated atop a NW-SE ridge in undulating pasture. Raised circular area (diam. c. 20-25m) enclosed by a stony bank (ext. H 1.4m at NW). A modern field boundary which extends around the site at NE may respect the curve of a pre-existing fosse. At the foot of the bank at SW and W is a ditch or gully (Wth 1.8m; D 1m) which then swings away from the site and extends for c. 10m NW. This appears to be a relatively modern feature. The site is densely overgrown with scrub rendering detailed inspection impossible. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 January 2011 Works at or in relation to a recorded monument need two months' written notice to the National Monuments Service (National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994, section 12). ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) No building of the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage stands in the townland of Altans. ## Ground and risks (Radon Risk Map of Ireland, EPA; Landslide Susceptibility Classification and LiDAR, Geological Survey Ireland) - Radon: at the centre of the townland of Altans, about 1 in 10 homes in this area is likely to have high radon levels. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
