In pasture, at the S end of a ridge overlooking Lough Arrow to the E. An oval area (32m NW-SE; 25m NE-SW) defined by the remains of two earthen banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank (Wth 3m: int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.2m) is evident W-NE, with the remains of a stone revetment on the external face to W; a further slight trace of bank is evident SSW-W. Elsewhere the interior is defined by a scarp. This scarp appears linear at E. The intervening fosse (Wth 3m) is evident all round. The outer bank (Wth 4.2m; int. H 0.9m; ext. H 0.6m) is evident E-SW. A NE-SW field boundary cuts across the interior. There is a souterrain (SL034-179002---) in the N quadrant adjacent to the bank. Beech trees grow along the perimeter of the rath. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008 - SL034-179002: Souterrain, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL034-179002-. In the N quadrant of a rath (SL034-179001-). A lintelled passage is evident, adjacent to the inner bank of the rath. The surface of a stone slab is visible c. 5m to S, indicating that the souterrain extends S towards the interior. Described by Prof. R. A. S. Macalister (d. 1950) in an undated report as a 'a souterrain, apparently about 18ft [5.48m] in length [which] opens outside in the N.E. corner and runs inward, but it is blocked' (SMR (1989) file). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008 - SL034-182: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL034-182----. In pasture, near the top of an E-facing slope. An oval area (30m NW-SE; 18m NE-SW) of rough disturbed stony ground, overgrown with thistles. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular area (diam c. 22m), defined by a solid line and planted with trees. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008 - SL034-264: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL034-264----. In pasture, on the broad level ridge top c. 25-30m W of a break of slope where ground falls away steeply to NE−E into a valley. An ESB pole stands close to the NW edge of the enclosure. A roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 60-65m) is visible in Lidar imagery and in aerial imagery (Digital globe, Google Earth). It is not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. The enclosure was levelled at an unknown date in the past and is almost impossible to trace at ground level; a slight undulation is visible on the NE–E arc. The interior encompasses a slight dip in ground level, and a densely rush-grown area (c. 30-35m) of damp, soggy ground and standing water covers much of the E half of the interior. The original date and function of this enclosure is unclear. Notified to NMS by Andrew Goodison. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
